Where are the Guantanamo Bay prisoners being relocated?

The Obama Administration hasn't given a definite answer to this question yet. There are several ideas but all seem to be speculation. At one point they had talked about transferring Gitmo prisoners to the Army's Fort Leavenworth in Kansas. This being the only place where the Department of Defense has a maximum secruity prison. However, the mayor of Kansas is fully against this proposal, being worried about acts of terrorism against Leavenworth.
Also, in 2008 the Bush Administration approached Canberra with the idea of an export program. As the Australian government has taken place in program such as these in the past. Late last year three prisoners were relocated to Bosnia with the export program. Everyone is unsure if Obama will continue with this process or not. |
