9th grade, in class, everyone in school that day met at the library where they had a couple of TVs playing the news footage. Unbelievable. It was like it wasn't real, like it was all some big joke. People were crying and rushing to the office to call family members. They all knew people who worked at the Trade Center. It was to much to even begin to grasp. |

Stern's Gym in San Diego, California.
I was doing my workout, when news of the incident came up on the TV.
The whole gym stopped working out, and people were calling family and friends living in New York on their cellular phones. |

I was sitting in my homeroom classroom, which was also my biology classroom. We had a just finished taking the Terra Nova (a standardized test in Indiana). I was in the 9th grade at the time. Our homeroom teacher had to leave to take care of something and a substitute (actually just one of the school's gym teachers) came in. She told us something had happened in Washington, D.C. as she only knew about the Pentagon at that time. She turned on the TV and they were replaying the first plane flying into the first building. After about 5 minutes, the second plane hit. |

Sleeping on my parents couch. My sister called from Florida(which is pretty sad since we lived in New Jersey), and told me that a plane had hit the WTC, I turned the TV on just in time to watch the second plane hit. Spent several hours trying to get in touch with a friend whose husband works in World Financial Center(he was in Battery Park, when the towers came down), finally heard from her mother and found out he was ok. Had to explain what happened later on to my ex-wife who lived in Portland OR what happened, she didn't wake up until like 2pm local time there. She found out later on that her aunt was on Flight 93. |

I was trying to get back on base when my crappy car over heated and smoke was coming out of it. I did not know what had happened yet, and the cops came over to see what was going on, they helped me push it to the side and when I asked why no one was getting on base they said "we had terrorists attack New York." I thought they were kidding at first, but unfortunately they weren't. |

On 11 September 2001 I was preparing to retire after 24 years in the USAF. Walked by the TV tuned to CNN at the Operations desk and saw massive fire and smoke coming from the first tower and idly wondered "What the F***?" Nobody knew yet, it was just a very bizarre occurrence at that time. Everybody went about their business until the second plane hit. That's when things changed and the whole country should have learned what we already knew. There is no safe place from someone who's determined to do you harm.
Spent an extra year in the service while they figured out what to do and who they needed to do it. |

I was at work. I was working as a veterinary technician and was right in the middle of cleaning a dog's teeth when one of the vets ran down and said that a plane crashed into the first tower. We thought it was maybe just a bizarre plane crash at first until that second plane hit moments later. My husband was at the mall and walked past Best Buy which had the coverage playing on all of the TVs. He stood with crowds of people for at least an hour, so he was actually watching live when the 2nd plane hit. |

Checking the news on my Yahoo page one last time before heading to the airport to catch my plane to work.
By the time I got to the airport all air traffic had been grounded. I went home and watched the towers fall on television. What a horrible day. |

In bed! We had just moved to Taiwan a week earlier, so I got the news when my sister called me in the middle of the night to let me know what was going on. My husband and I watched CNN for a couple hours, then went back to sleep. In the morning I had to tell my mom (she had come with me to help us settle in). Her flight home was scheduled for the first day air traffic resumed. She said her plane was practically empty.
It was strange being overseas when it happened. It felt unreal, and made me feel a million miles from home, instead of just 7,000. |

I was at work. The news was so devastating to everyone, that the supervisor aloud everyone to take turns and go to the break room to watch the news report through the remainder of the shift. |

I was gettting ready to go to work when I turned on the tv and every channel was covering the same thing. So I payed attention and found out what it was and got really scared. I didn't want to leave the house, but I did anyway. It was only hours later that our whole city was basically put on lockdown since it was one of the cities that one of the planes had passed over. It was pretty scary and I'll never forget it. |

On board the Warship USS Paul F. Foster watching CNN because it was one of the few channels we were allowed to watch. At that time we were getting major repairs done to our ship, but the other ships on base left with orders to shoot down anything flying twards major cities. Yes, you read that right, the Navy had orders to bring down any plane in the air after the grounding orders were issued. |
