seeing as one fights from the air and the other on the ground and i think this is common knowledge was there any point in asking?.....edit,JELIGULA,just wanted to mention that we brits do not have the time to practise marching as we are to busy fighting your war and as for the SAS,the only time you will see them marching is when their on the way to war but dont hold your breath waiting to see it |

omg are you twelve or something, they are different armed forces for a start, were you arguing with your mates at school about this? next you'll be telling me how big your dad is |

sorry Jeligula - I really can't see that getting the SAS to practice close order drill is a sensible use of resources. |

'jeligula,'
marching doesn't win battles.
sometimes people come up with the most ridiculous patriotic arguments. |

They both contribute to the forces of Britain but are you asking which is the best to join as a career? |

apples or oranges?
Both are complex and professional organisations that are well respected in their field. If you're asking about a career then it depends what you want to do. What are your interests? Both Organisations have a multitude of career options to choose from, anything from mortuary assistant to avionics technician. Neither is "better" |

Not being funny mate, you cannot compare the two, one is an air force and one is an ground troop, please tell me how you can compare them? |

Which is better for what?
RAF is good for air related operations and Army for ground ops.
RAF has less ******** largely because the average airman is treated as a grown-up. Initiative is a more compelling requirement than mindless obedience.
Army is much better at marching but is probably not hugely significant since the Battle of Waterloo. However, it would be a shame to allow progress stand in the way of tradition!
In any case, either organisation makes their transatlantic counterparts look a little overmanned and underskilled. they both do subtle quite well also. |

It depends what you want. Unless you are aircrew or RAF Regiment and you want a soft life the RAF is by far the best option. If you want "travel and adventure" and don't mind roughing it a bit it has to be the army. I can recall one incident escorting an RAF deserter to the nearest RAF station with a guard room and remarking that my unit was in a wooden hutted barracks to be met with the question "Are you on exercise?" |

Coming from a military background i would have to say the army besides we play better rugby |

Stupid question. It's like saying Who's Better, an Ice cream man or a plumber.
They both have different roles so you cannot compare them |

they do different things. the RAF is like the army, just higher.
Anyway, of the 3 services, the Royal Navy is the best |

I am guessing that the RAF would be good at air support, bombing and flight operations while the Army would be good at ground operations. Conversely, the RAF would be terrible at ground operations and the Army might have some problems with the planes.
edit: OK. I must comment on the British ability to march, since everybody else is. I can say beyond a shadow of a doubt that British forces cannot do close order drill worth a damn. This goes for the SAS as well. There may be one or two "showcase" regiments where they practice, but the rest..... I know, because I have seen the ability of the average British force to do close order drill. Can't hold a candle to the USMC.
Chris: Of course marching doesn't win battles. I would that it did, then nobody would have to die. |

The Army is better. Referring to Carol X's comments, you obviously know nothing about the Army! We have loads of different Corps, each with their own trades. As for marching, when was the last time you saw the RAF on Parade? The RAF Regiment maybe but the rest of the RAF cant march!! |

AIR FORCE!!! all the way |

Having been brought up in a RAF family.. I have to say the RAF.
I reckon its because its more diverse & has more trades involved than the Army.
Plus.... & this is just a biased view.. We can march better!! lol |
