Which WW1 battle is most famous for the first effective use of tanks in warfare?

Is it the Battle of Flers, or the Battle of Somme, or some other?

I've read the other responses and while I agree with them I'm going to have to say that in my belief the first 'effective' use of tanks was the Battle of Cambrai. I believe that was the first battle where tanks in sufficient numbers were used to advantage with a discernable outcome. Well that's my input. Good luck to you.

Battle of Cambrai is where tanks made their debut on the battlefield

Hello there
I am the surfer

tanks came into play at both Cambrai and Somme because since late 1915 and early 1916 trench warfare meant static display, lost of strategic surprise, lack of mobility, no sense of progress and so on, it took too many artillery pieces and shots to pave the way for costly and ineffective waves of human assault with great losses, so tanks were developed to help break the stalemate! tanks were given such name because british workers were told they were building tanks to contain water so the name stuck around
Tanks were resistant to machine gun bullets, not so to direct artileery and also they can cross troug barbed wire and trenches, the germans fell to panic and disarray, the german tanks were lousy and slow1
2 models came around 1 with a cannon called the male and one with machine guns called the female

Tanks were first used in combat during the First World War at the battle of the Somme, although the British Mark I tanks which participated were still experimental at the time.

There really wasn't a first "effective" use of the tank during the war. Tanks caused more issues for the user than effect. Most tanks broke down quickly and were easily destroyed.

I'd give credit to the Somme for the first planned use of the tank and to Villers-Breton (April 1918) for the first tank-vs-tank battle.

Edit: Flers saw the first use of a tank. Dubbed mother.

Yea the British tanks in WW1 were horribly built. Caused more loss of life than it saved.
