If you don't want to go to Iraq, or Afghanistan, don't join the military. I'm not judging you, I don't think there's any shame in not wanting to go to the Middle East, but there's no other way to guarantee you not going. |

EVERY branch of the US Military deploys. Dont like it then dont join. |

Then I would suggest you not join any Service... |

Don't even join then. Anytime you raise your right hand and join, you need to expect to go somewhere you might not like. All these cowards who join and decide they didn't want to go to war, just wanted a free education, and go to Canada make me sick. You weren't drafted, you v-o-l-u-n-t-e-e-r-e-d. If you don't agree with war, then don't join. Period. |

So you want to join the armed forces, BUT you don't want to fight... you may want to rethink your career choice |

There aren't any MOS assignments that will guarantee you won't deploy to either place. |

it doesnt matter what mos you have everyone gets deployed |

All branches, even the Coast Guard, are in Iraq and/or Afghanistan... and it doesn't matter what MOS or Rate you select as you may still end up with Individual Augmentee (IA) orders to either location.
If you still want to enlist, my advice is to pick a MOS or Rate that you will enjoy doing. I've known EOD guys who didn't necessarily love going to war but they loved being able to do the jobs they were trained to do.
Best of luck. |

Are you kidding?? Is this a serious question...Look, you join the miitary to protect our nation. our unit has soldiers going to the middle east and the philippines. we don't choose where we wanna go, but the benefits come with a price. if you don't wanna go overseas, don't join |

Why would you join the military if you do not want to do what the military does? |

.

ALL mos go to war. |

I would recommend Navy. Sure I am a little biased (Navy Vet) but no matter your Rate (Navy word for MOS) it would be rare for you to go to those places - unless you choose to be a Seebea or if you make the SEAL cut (not likely).
You will deploy and you might even end up in the Gulf - I did in 1995. No worries because the Navy is there for support missions. The pilots may see action but the deck crews just prepare, maintain, and launch the birds.
Navy life is tough. You will be at sea for months at a time. Most jobs work 12 hour days 7 days a week at sea. If your single then you will love the Navy - chicks dig the uniform all over the world lol. |

Air Force is the least likely to end up in a heavy combat area. That's not to say it won't ever happen, it's just far less likely. With some jobs in the Air Force like Cryptologic Linguist (needs insanely high ASVAB scores and then you have to score 100 on the DLAB) you're more likely to sit in an enclosed room at Fort Meade, MD than you are to deploy anywhere. Again, I'm not saying it doesn't happen, it's just not likely. |
