The Marines, if you join the Marines and decide after 4 years to go to another branch you can step right in, however if you become an MP in another branch and after 4 years decide you want to be a Marine you lose everything and start over (plus have to go to Marine recruit training)
So no matter what type of answers people tell you bottom line is, it's tougher to get into the Marines, but it pays off in the long run.
Now you do have to be 19 to be an Marine MP so you may pick one of the other branches because of that. |

It's hard to say which branch has the best. Obviously, there's a few more benefits career-path wise if you choose the Marines, but it also depends on where you want your career to go, and what kind of places you want to see. I have a really good friend that just shipped out as an Army MP, and he's so excited to be shot at in Iraq so he can shoot back (not kidding. You have to have that kind of attitude in the Army, and in the Marines, too) The Navy, however, is much safer. You get to concentrate on your schooling a lot more, and you are almost always on the beach or out to sea. One of my Navy recruiters was an MP, and he loved it. Either way, you're looking at a really good career path, as long as you have the heart for it. |
