Don't forget about the reserve components. I am in the Air National Guard. They offer guaranteed job assignments (depending on availablitity at the time) at the unit of your choosing. It's more of a part-time job, except that, at the moment the Guard, Army in particular, is pretty busy.
You go to the same schools and get the same training as active duty, but when you are all done, you go home, not wherever they want to send you. I started off as an aircraft mechanic and am now a pilot. I get to see the world, mostly on a voluntary basis, and usually stay in some very nice accommodations. The quality of life between the Air Force and the other branches, I don't think, is even comparable. Ultimately you have to decide based on what is important to you. Do what you want, not what somebody else thinks is a cool job. |

In my biased view the US Army is the best, and the reason I choose to join the Army over the other branches was the fact I was guarnteed a slot to go to Airborne School. |

Well, my father was in the Army National Guard when I was growing up. Also, I watched "M*A*S*H" a lot over the years, so I kind of came to like the Army. No rational reason for my preference, though.
Each branch has a different function and should be valued for that reason. |

I spent 7 years in the Army and 6 years in the Navy. I prefer the Navy because there are smarter people in that branch.
During the time I was in the Army, I worked with many Air Force people. They have the best food and clubs. But, many times, their promotions come very slowly compared to other branches.
While I was in the Navy, I worked around Marines. I wouldn't suggest anyone go into the Marines unless you like to be belittled all the time. Also, the Marines have a stricter grooming policy. Marines are belittled all the time yet, all the while, they instill an air of superiority in the Marines. This may be one of the reasons that we refer to Marines as "Jar-heads."
And, then, there's the Coast Guard. |

I don't like any of them, but if I had to join one (in my case it'd be the Irish military) it'd be the Army, and I'd join as a bandsman. I wouldn't join the Navy because I don't like sailing; I wouldn't join the Air Corps because I don't like flying.
I'd come out fighting rather than allow myself to be forced into the US military. Unlike the Irish military, the US military is constantly being sent off to fight stupid and badly-planned wars. The Irish military just does UN peacekeeping duty now and then (although they do get killed doing that - there is an Irish Army UN cemetery round the corner from my house). |

If I were still in the Navy, I'd say Navy. But, I'm in the Army now.

Regardless of which one you choose if you have a relatively positive attitude you will come out miles ahead.
The only influences toward a military job were Navy. The only recruiter that came to my high school was Navy. I chose the Navy to get training in an electrical background. I also got training in power plants. Both have served me well in the 20 years since I got out.

What You Talkin' About?

Air Force and Navy have the best technical training. Being on a ship for months on end can be a drag though, and the Air Force makes it easier to start you education while in the service. They even have something called the Air Force Community College where they cooperate with community colleges near bases to earn an associates degree. Hard to go to classes in the middle of the ocean.
Edit- to buzz...except in spelling....obviously |

The Marines is the toughest there is. IT may be hard but they have the most pride. They also are the first to fight because they can be ordered by congress, others have to wait for the president to declare war, i think it is because the marines are the toughest and most skilled. Do what you want but once a Marine always a Marine. |

USAF because you are treated better and you have more choices of technical jobs. You have better living conditions, there is more mutual respect between enlisted and Officers.
