Which country has the best soldiers?

The US military is the most powerful, best equipped, and most highly trained fighting force in the world. Regardless of the situation in Iraq, the people there have to decide if they will live in peace in that country. There are too many factions and fanatics for that to happen yet. When faced on the battlefield the US is not force to not be meddled with. If the military of today fought like the army of centuries before, you would have CNN showing civilian bodies stacked like cord wood throughout Iraq. Today's soldier or Marine is the "citizen soldier" who now has been put in a humanitarian role as well as the killer he or she has to be when attacked. Being both is the most difficult where as the soldier of the past has never had such difficult conditions such as politicians holding the purse strings or "armchair general" voters.
The US military has a vast array of the best weapons in the world, only because the US capitalist system is the best in the world where individuals thrive in business and labor, creating a enormous tax base on which to fund the military. The voters elect leaders which provide for a strong Dept. of Defense, thus providing our troops with the best training and weapons.

As or the Navy Seals, I have heard they have the best training when I was in the Marine Corps. Some other elite groups I have heard to be very well trained and equipped:
US Marine Force Recon
British Royal Marines
Thai Marines
Probably any special forces unit would be well trained but of course the ones in democratic countries are the best.

I think that is a relative question. I knew seals when I was San Diego and paddled canoes with them.

I knew SF team members when I was in the army. I lifted weights with them. Some SF members who trained with seals complained that seals had problems with land navigation. Quite obvious, that SF members would not be a strong swimmers.

I knew guys who trained on the rescue teams for the coast guard. These guys jumped into the ocean in storms.

I had friends that trained with the French Foreign Legion in France. We were all stationed in germany.

I think it is all relative. A mission can make or break a soldier. The best soldiers can die in a miscalculated mission.

Now, let's talk about guard duty in Iraq. I don't think any soldier would want to do that. I presume a lot of marines and army are roving the streets. Those are the heros. You don't know who the enemy is.

Navy seals, Marine Recon, Army rangers, air force SO, (excuse my knowledge of the Air force special forces I forgot their exclusive name, my apologizes to the air force people out there)
Actually I think the French Foreign Legion are exclusive, but I think our forces would over power them.
So since America has been building up it's troops since the late 80's and has integrated some awesome powerful weapons. I would think America.

What you are really asking is which country has the "coolest" Special Forces....In which I would reply...they are each "SPECIAL" in their own way....get a clue kiddo

I think you would need to define what you mean in regards to soldiers.

I group Special Forces differently then I do the regular soldier.

I don't know if they have a regular competition but it would be interesting to see.

my husband is a US marine, and when i asked him about other countries he said there were some powerful and well trained ones (like the aussies) but to my surprise he said if we were to go to war with israel, we would get our a$$e$ handed to us. so i dont know, but thats what ive heard

i heard that delta force had some extremely well trained soldiers. It is one thing to defend a fortification like the swiss, it is another thing to send a few elite soldiers against a large number of enemies, like we did in Mogadishu. I read that the delta force and seals did some considerable damage for such a small group

it all depends..... in terms of training and harsh conditions: French Foreign Legion has the best soldiers as well as Russian spetsnaz.
In terms of better military equipment: it is Israel special forces as well as Americans.
I'd say you need to specify the quality of these soldiers in all aspects. So far I'd say it may be four countries: France, Russia, Israel, USA... It all depends.

Vatican City - has the most highly trained Swiss soldiers - there so good that nobody even thinks about attacking it

Any soldier, even a soldier in the Kiss army, is better than the USA. They are so dependent on high tech gadgets that they don't even bother with the soldiers and most of them are a bunch of redneck little gay ballerinas that prove that it is possible to lose just about any war even if all your gizmos are idiot-proof. Take away their night-goggles and their flak jackets and all that's left is a sissy little soft baby with his pants down around his knees and who knows the lyrics to a lot of rap songs and watches too much tv. Those guys aren't even trained to win. They're just supposed to go hang out in unsecured areas with other potential offenders and undesireables and maybe they can even shoot at each other on good days.
