Hi Kim....good question.

I prefer the US Army. Why...because I served in the Army as a Lieutenant in the Field Artillery branch. I was a Platoon Leader for a Lance Missile Battery at Ft.Sill, OK. A Battery is equilenlent to a Company as in an Infanty Company or Armour (tanks) Company.

Would I join again? Instantly. In fact when I return to the states after 18 months in Iraq as a DoD contract working with the troop I contact the Army to see if i could re-activat my commission. Even though I had 6 years of combined service (3 yrs Active duty & 3 years Reserve duty) at 52 years of age I missed the cut off date to return to service by less than 3 years! Too bad I didn't consider rejoining the service during the 1st Gul War when I was 38. Hind sight...20/20..... So I am in the process of obtaining another DoD contract to return to Iraq or go to Afghanistan.

And regarding the US Navy...my Grandfather & Father were Naval officers and retired as Commanders.
The US Air Force...my Dad's brother (my Uncle obviously) graduated rom the US Naval Academy but elected to be commissioned in the USAF (there was no USAF Academy at the time). He retired as a Colonel.
As for the US Marine Corp. No family members...BUT! My friend of 33 years is a former US Marine and Godfather to my son. So I've got all the active duty service bases covered.

Ok....more that you wanted to know! It's just that my family has 299 year history of military service since we arrive (fled actually) from France and arrive in the America in 1607.

USMC is the greatest fighting force in the world bar none. We have the strongest tradition and are damn proud of who we are. Many people talk of the military but the USMC is the real deal. "if the army or the navy ever come on heavens scenes, they will find the streets are guarded by United States Marines"

MARINES because I am & will allways be!

OOH RAH !!

It's been a while...........
Air Force because my Daddy was in it.

Not I wouldn't join because I am past the enlistment age.

Marine Corps. They are perceived as the most elite military force on the planet, and for good reason too. There's a reason why you never USED to be a Marine, but you ARE a Marine. I am scheduled for MEPS on Friday, and if all goes well, will be leaving for bootcamp in late June 2007. Just a few weeks after graduating High School, MOS will be Infantry. Can't wait!

You need to include the Coast Guard. They are often overlooked, but a vital part of our national security, search and rescue and maritime operations.

i have respect for all but i have to back my job and say GO ARMY. i was raised in an ARMY household and that's how it is going to stay. when i met my husband he was a SP for the Air Force and i convienced him to join up ARMY.

Air Force. The Pararescuemen are the most hardcore personnel in the world, bar none. When the Marines or SEALS get trapped in enemy territory, the Pararescue Corps is called in. Only 15% of candidates make it through the basic selection. They are fully qualified paramedics, top-echelon commandos, and unequaled in parachuting prowess.

Motto of the AF Pararescue Corps: "That others may live."

angel007
i have respect for all of the above... i have met some really cool soldiers in my time.
I can't say that i am disciplined to join... but who knows... if i was ever faced with war and hardship at home. I would do what i could to protect my rights and freedoms.

Army, All the Way. I've always been Army green.

The National Guard is made up of the Army National Guard and the Air Force National Guard. Both of those are components of their respective services. Choosing between Active service and National Guard kind of depends on your goals. I've been in both, am currently in the Army National Guard but would recommend to anyone that they do at least one tour in active service.

My experience with the Marines in Iraq was that they liked to live rough even when they didn't have too. I mean they had the worst chow of any mess hall I ever ate at in the whole country. They didn't have to have crappy chow, they just did. Also, when a large group was rotating out back through Kuwait they had the option of staying at one of the nicer built up camps or staying in one of the worst dustbowl camps in the country. Their leadership put them in the dustbowl...said they'd tear up the nicer place...no joke. I like a little action so being a ground troop took care of that but I'm not too big on being miserable for the sake of being miserable.

Well everyones opinion is different friend. I mean every force is different. The army and marines are basic a control force going in the danger zones. Navy are mainly medics and Air Force are air aeronautical nuts.
I chose the Air force. Which I do leave for basic training in a couple of weeks. The reason why I chose the Air Force is because it is hard to join and its made up of smart people. You must have a minimum asvab score of 40 to join. Not only that, but the Air force gets better treatment, Trust me.
Notice how you don't really hear anything about the Air Force in the news.
Not being to sterotypical here.

Hope you like the answer.

I was in the Army, so I am biased, but I respect anyone who is in the military.

Just because you are in the Air Force does not mean you will fly any more than any of the other services. Not everyone is a pilot. Even so, you cant live scared forever.

As a whole branch I would choose the Marine Corps. They are the smallest which allows them to have harder training since they don't have to worry about scareing people away. However, I am joining the Navy because they have the job I want.

Well I've been in the Marine Corps for almost 6 years and I do not regret a Minute of it. We all have different jobs to do in the armed services. I have worked with some of the other branches and have nothing but respect for those men and women. The Marines is not for everyone it's alot of training and very physically demanding.

I would hope to god that how the men look in uniform is not, in any way, your motivation to join. The key word is preference. It all depends on what interests you. If you would like to be a pilot the Air Force is not your only choice. The Army, Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard all have pilots and aircraft. Navy, Marines, and AF are the only services that have fighter planes. So if you want to be a fighter pilot your best bet would be Navy or Marines( both are designated 'Naval Aviators') their training surpasses that of the Air Force fighter pilots. Navy and Marine pilots are trained to land and take off from Carrier decks. Army pilots primarily fly helicopters. Also, you need to be an officer if you want to be a pilot which means you need a bachelor's degree from an accredited 'four year' college or university. The Army does have a Warrant Officer flight program that does not require a Bachelor's degree but does require a certain amount of time as an enlisted soldier. Hope that helps. I will be joining; Marine Corps, I want to fly the new Joint Strike Fighter {Lightning II}; its not going to be introduced to active duty for a few years so i'll shoot for flying the Harrier. You might get a guarantee to flight training, you will not get a guarantee as to which aircraft you want to fly.

The Air Force has the best uniforms, bases, food but the slowest advancement.

If you're looking for training and fast advancement, but don't mind old buildings and so so food the Army is the best.

Mr. Right
The ARMY, hoooah.....y, because thats what i'm in....and im an MP the best of the best the army has to offer...(military police, we lead the way)

WsUpiTzM3
air force.

my dad was in it.
he isnt needed in a plane anymore as a navigator because a machine is doing all the work.
he was depressed, and I want to join the air force to make him proud.

nay
My husband is in the navy. He looks so hot in his dress whites. I Joined the Coast Guard. It has more to do with law enforcement.

i am too old to join, but if i had too, i would choose navy ,then airforce,,as i think it is harder to be killed,as they seem to send the army, national guards, marines to the frontlines..As the navy is sitting in the ocean and usually have radar to keep and eye below the sea and up in the air....

I thought about joining the Army and being a pilot. Go in as Warrant Officer. But I'm not, I say Army because my husband is a solider. They're the backbone of the military. No disrespect for the other branches.
