well Josh the words Hooah! or Oohra! are one in the same, what I'm trying to say is that either word represents the same meaning to either the Army or Marines, it is and expression of strength and confidence. normally in the army it is only heard in the rangers although the Marines say it more often. i spent 26 years in the Army and i honestly cant tell you which came first but here is a web site to help you out.http://usmilitary.about.com/od/jointservices/a/hooah.htm

supersoldier is right, I saw it on an AFN (armed forces network) when I waqs stationed in Korea also. Plus it's just common sense, since the Army is over 125 Years old

Well i would day the Army. Why? Well because Oohra actually came from Hooah. They are basicly the same but different. Hooah orginated in the 19th century when a Army Colonel went to have peace talks with a Indian tribe. The chief of the tribe wanted to impress his visitors but did not speak english so he had one of the guys in his tribe teach him how to say "How are you" When the Colonel went to greet the Chief he tried to say "How are you" but it came out sounding like "Hooah" After that the Soldiers adopted it as a greeting and then it just took of from there.

?
Army all the way!!!!

I do believe that the Army was established first so probably the Army's Hooah. I really don't care one way or the other. They are ALL HEROS to me.

The answers regarding the AFN commerical are right, I've seen that one myself.

Also, for Lance H, this is the second time I've seen you try to say the USMC is older than the US Army. For brevities sake, I'll just post the link to the previous question.

Ray H
US army started using Hooah in the late 19th century . The marine corps used to say hooah also but have adapted it and made Oorah their own thing .

I remember the Marines doing it back in the early 80's and the Army started it as a recruiting tool during the late 90's. I still think it's dumb too.
