Which would be better to join ?

I think everyone pretty much gets deployed more or less the same these days. The Government makes more military commitments around the world at the same time as cutting the size of the military, so everyone gets plenty of airmiles.

The Royal Marines are small, effectively not much larger than an Army regiment, so your chances of getting in are correspondingly lower than those of getting into an Infantry regiment. And the training is considerably harder. Getting selected is only the start, a high percentage never pass out because, put simply, the course is nails.

Still, if you've got qualifications and the skills, being a Bootneck officer carries a higher respect than being the same rank in an infantry regiment.

Good luck whatever you decide to go for. And if you do get to be an officer in any service, just remember this for me;

An officer is judged by the way he (or she) treats the rank and file, and NCO's are NCO's because they've got the experience and knowledge of how it works.

Remember that at all times, and you're halfway to being a decent officer.

I would say the marines. Thats if your up for a bigger challange. Test yourself, I'd go for marines. Good luck

As Active Duty military family member my entire life-USA...I couldnt give you an accurate quote as to which is best and whom deploy moreoften. But I will suggest that you speak to someone other than a recruiter about specifics. Go to a post and ask soldiers first hand of thier experiences or post your questions here or yedda.com....get real life answers-not what the recruiters want you to hear. Joining the Marines is a big step, you really need to have some special about you for them.

Both are good, but as to who gets deployed most I don't know

A nephew of mine is RM. He seems to be busy all the time and its not always Iraq/Afghanistan.

I'm ex Infantry, so my opinion could be a bit bias. I would go Infantry,
because there are more regiments to choose from. There are probably more detachments open to you as well. A county regiment becomes in a way family and the guys are every bit as proud and up for it as any marine. Sadly the Labour government has done serious damage to the county regiment system, but I still choose Infantry.

Go for the Marines, it will test you to the limits and get the best out of you, also the Marines are amongst the first to be dispatched to trouble spots. Good Luck.

well if you're going to join the infantry, would it be the Guards Regiments which means you are Elite or the ordinary regiments or would it be the Royal Marines which means you are Elite. either way there is a great chance of dying but if you are in the grenadier guards then you get to stay in london and guard the queen as well as duking it out with the taliban in afghanistan

infantry as there are alot more of them however just looking at the infantry regiment you want to join and the marines i would say fairly equal.

Royal marines service i think much more specialised. The Royal Marines are classed as "Elite" troops, not quite special forces but compared to a lot of other countries they outperform what they class as SF. So I would advise Royal Marines!
