Who Would win in a war between US and UK, i rekon the uk would own the USA? your thoughts?

It would be a stalemate. The US could not take Britain and the UK could not take America.

The battle for the air would be won by America, although there would not have air superiority over the UK, by just sear numbers.

The sea would be a much better battle. The British are renown as the best submariners and have the best Submarines in the World, in fact the train the Americans. An American Battle group would be the size of the royal navy though so although the subs could do damage the boats would be kept in dock or close to land.

The UK wouldn't have enough power to invade the US and the British defenses are to powerful to allow an America Invasion.

I doubt America would fire a nuclear missile as Britain is also a nuclear nation and both countries would be destroyed.

If you could include the whole of Europe on the British side, a most probably occurrence, then it would be a lot more interesting.

Sorry but the other way around. We do not have enough forces to conquer the United states, even if you drafted in every able bodied male between 17 and 45, we would still not have the manpower to hold the US. Size alone is the factor, to beat them, maybe, to hold, no way.
Also depends where the battles would be fought and when. We also do not have the lift capability by air or sea to deploy more than a couple of battalions of troops and support equipment. the Americans have a lot of lift capacity and can deploy a number of divisions at a time.
The Royal Navy could not stop a blockade of the UK these days by anyone with more than a few subs and surface ships, no matter how good our wepons are, the US fleet has 100's of ships it could deploy. Aircraft, we have no bomber force except for a few tactical short range craft, the Americans have a Startegic Bomber force that could quite easily flatten every city in the UK with conventional Bombing from the US bases.
Finally why would we go to war with the US? What about the rest of NATO and Commonwealth forces, any conflict involving either side would involve many other nations in support, directly or indirectly of one another.

The UK would lose out in a matter of hours because their troops out number ours...

UK armed forces - personnel strength of 429,500 in 2006 (195,900 regular force, 191,300 regular reserve, and 42,300 volunteer reserve

Firstly, I'm British.

To answer the question. The USA would win.

We haven't got the capacity to fight them anyway, as all our soldiers are committed overseas, and we haven't even got enough left here to provide cover in case of a firemans strike.

It'd be over in as long as it takes them to get here and we'd all be speaking English and watching American TV before the day was out.

He has no idea how he would supply these troops as well.

He has no idea of the amount of troops it would not only take to have a succesful invasion or how many it would take to keep control of the country once "captured".

He has obviously no idea of the population of the American Continent or the size of the US Armed Forces.

There is no way we could match the US in firepower, servicemen, weaponry or technology (we gave all our technical knowledge to them during the IIWW and they steamed ahead of us thereafter). Remember we are smaller than most states of the US and our Army smaller than their national guard.

unfourtunatly it would be about 100/1 and noone can beat those odds but i agree that we have a far superior armed force just we are such a small island that they could take us out the whole of the uk with 8 nukes and they have something like 5000 of them.

Nope, the Germans wouldn't dare come near us with their ships through fear of the Royal Navy so instead tried to shootdown our planes with theirs and bust our civilian morale. Both these attempts failed.

As for the actual question, The US's manpower and funding would win over the Briton's better trained but under funded and stretched military. But in terms of skills the Brits would definitely win through better training (The US have better resources and equipment but don't know how to use it and rely on airstrikes alot)

The United states already have troops ready for deployment...they will have a much easier time invading Uk then the UK would invading the USA

Also who would come to UKs aid? France most ceartainly wouldn't Russia and China would stay out.

Also how do you know the UK troops are superior to our own? How much action have you guys seen? I don't think you are in a postition to judge yet.

Also say what you want about your soldiers but the Royal Navy is pitiful. I mean they let their sailors fall into Iranian hands because they let them out of our sight. Thats something the US navy would never do. So without question our Navy would take out yours.

When it comes to planes..UK would be far eaiser to cripple with Air Strikes..the USA will be harder because its much much bigger. It would take less personell to defeat the UK then it would the USA.

The US also has a much bigger array of resources, more bombs, more missles, more guns, more people, more materials to keep a war going, Britian does not. They would eventually go dry and have to surrender.

Even if your correct that your troops are better trained you would still lose to the USA, because you have less troops to deploy than the USA.

Also don't forget history...the American Patriots defeated the british army. And the Americans saved your skins when the nazis wanted to take you guys.

Well you can get your answer if you just get a globe out and check out the size of USA compared to the Uk.

I agree that our soldiers are superior to the americans but sheer numbers would mean that they would win.

Their Marine Corps is bigger than our whole Army just to put it in purspective. And the marine corps isn't their biggest asset either.

The US would win, not necessarily because of quality but by shear force of numbers.

There was a time when taking on the UK would have involved taking on the troops of Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Rhodesia, India and other forces of the British Commonwealth as well.

Times have changed thanks to the incompetence of lefty, liberal politicians.

We would be hard pushed taking on the troops from New England alone.

Yes the US has more of every-thing than the UK a much larger military force more planes, tanks etc. and they are not the bungling fools that you try to make them out to be. As far as W W 2 yes the U K had been fighting Germany long before the U S entered the war but don't forget who was supplying you with war materials so that you could survive and if the U S had not came in when they did England might have become a part of Germany. By the way why don't we ever hear about the American pilots who flew for England long before the U S entered the war?

Anyway you look at it, what's happening now isn't a real reflection on the US military. The non-approved "Police Actions" of the last half century were not wars and were/are mostly, if not wholly, unsupported by the people and the media. Of course you will hear of every single flaw, and few of the accomplishments in these war efforts when no one believes in the wars. (Nam, Iraq, etc...).

When it comes down to it, and it's for a good cause (Oil is not a good cause) our military functions well enough to take on ANY opponents. It's been proven numerous times.

If we can just get our stupid Gov't to keep it's nose out other peoples business and focus on what we have here at home, we wouldn't have to worry about going to war with this or that country.

It has to be the UK, the USA would win the first two rounds. Then all the later rounds the UK will win on points until the UK would win the knockout.

It is pertinently clear that the UK is superior in every way to the US. Who has all the culture? The better food. Who would fight on without seeing a profit and make sacrifices. And go on for the extra mile. An who can spell properly?

u.s. would win hands down reasons: 1. u.s. most powerful military in the world 2. it has millions of battle hardened highly trained troops with years of combat experience 3. we have massive surplus of nukes tactical and strategic 4. world-reknowned special forces such as green beret would be used to sabotage and humiliate british defences and strategic resource centers; however brits would have home feild advantage and could use garrisons from colonies to terrorize u.s. fleet
