This is biblical in nature.
Read up on the story of Abraham. God promised Abraham a land for his people - but said that it was his bloodline that would inherit the land. Abe's wife Sara couldn't get pregnant, so she offered up their housekeeper to act as a concubine/surrogate. When the housekeeper gave birth to Ishmael, Sara got so jealous that she talked Abraham into kicking them both out. Mystery of mysteries, but then Sara got pregnant and gave birth to Isaac.
The sons of Ishmael became the line of Mohamed (started Islam), while the sons of Isaac included Solomon, David and Jesus.
The entire argument lies in the argument of who is REALLY Abe's legitimate son, and who should inherit the land. Both sides believe that THEY deserve it. |

That all depends on who you listen to. I have read books on both, and to be honest as near as I can tell, they have both done good and bad things to one another, mostly bad. Really it just comes down to now, how we are going to stop what's going on. The big problem is both sides now hate each other so much it's really hard to find a middle ground. |

That's always going to depend on who you ask. But it goes back a lot further than you would think.
Especially if you include the muslim/judeo-christian conflicts as well.
But be careful what you google- many sources are notoriously against anything israeli. |
