Who do you think has the greatest stress:: teacher, policeman, soldier or air-traffic controller?

Ha, I always laugh when people talk about how stressful it is being an air-traffic controller. If an atc guy messes up, he gets a letter on his file and possible disciplinary actions and maybe get fired. If a pilot messes up, or doesn't catch a mistake made by a controller, well, we know what can happen. Plus they have the luxury of never having to leave their air conditioned tower. I'm an army hawk pilot, so I'd go with soldier, even though we are put into stressful situations, I think most of it is self induced.

You people are saying Teachers who have to teach people younger than them have less stress than someone getting shot at, and watching his comrades die around him? Or someone who has to make sure hundreds of people don't crash into the ground. I know veterans who have carved the names of fallen friends into their skin with a scalpel, i don't know any teachers carving Columbine into their skin.

Depends on the type of stress and what/where the person is at/doing.

What I mean is, a soldier who's career field has him ensuring people get their travel voucher paid and their paperwork filed center probably doesn't have nearly as much stress as an Air Traffic Control at La Guardia.

On the flip side, an infantryman who's job is dealing death and handling carnage all around him is going to have a MUCH greater chance of suffering PTSD than an Air Traffic Controller in Abilene, Texas...

Overall, I think an infantry/combat medic/corpsman have the greatest amount of peak stress while in combat.

The problem with pay is this: these jobs are usually government funded. People have no problem paying the thousands of dollars for season tickets or exorbant amounts for a seat at the stadium, but when you ask for them to pay more taxes so the government can pay these jobs more, the people are outraged.

I would say air traffic controller. One mistake and hundreds of people die. No screwing off at that job.

Air traffic controller, by far. They are paid well; some get as much as $160,000 a year.

i think teachers have a stupid amount of stress ive known and befriended a couple of teachers and god can only repay their true contribution to society... they have to put up with crap from parents students bosses and stupid legislations and rules and get a really crappy paycheck and health benefits... if anything a teacher has alot of stress many of them have health problems due to their job conditions and enviroment.

I am going to say that the hardest job out of all of these is being the spouse of those who have these jobs...I am a military wife and i deal with alot of ups and downs and raise my children without a husband mostly.

Most certainly and although they're not compensated fully there has been progression made concerning all of these professions.

I would also throw in CPS workers, prison guards, mental health facilities.

I would say the teacher has the most stress. With the police force and the military you know what you are in for when you devote yourself to that life. But for a teacher,especially in today's schools, you never know when you're going to be teaching the alphabet one day or shot at the other. The other jobs you have training if you're shot at at least!
