getting hard numbers is a challenge because the US is not using "body counts" as a means of measuring progress. However, Michael Yon On-line is a website by an independent reporter who is embedded with coalition forces in Iraq and will give you a good flavor of what we do and what the enemy does. Basically, the enemy sets off truck bombs in market places while we sometimes accidentally hit one during fire fights. Your contention is correct. Good luck finding figures. Massive examples of Al Qaida's spurious accomplishments can be found by searching Yahoo on "Al Qaida attrocities". |

I personally think you wont find any "numbers" because a lot of things aren't reported. US troops may kill civilians on accident because the terrorist hide amongst the children and women. |

1. They do not wear uniforms, so it is difficult to tell if they are an insurgent, or a civilian.
2. Part of the strategy is to hide among civilians in hopes that the innocent will provide some form of protection. Human shields. These people are caught in the cross fire. Fault of the insurgents? Or the US forces? Or the Iraqi civilian population for putting up with that sh*t? What are the rules for the head count?
If we were fighting a country, the rules of engagement would be simple. Mistakes would be less. |

I would say insurgents since they have been killing civilians since before the war began.... |

Is that a serious question?
95% od civilain death in Iraq are from insurgents, terrorists, Irainians and al queda. |

Aside from the few incidents where some soldiers have flown off the handle and committed crimes against civilians, civilian casualties unfortunately in war is a fact of life. Terrorists on the other hand purposely target civilians creating chaos among them. I am not sure of the exact numbers, but I know the terrorists have purposely killed more innocent civilians than the entire Coalition Forces combined which is not hard to do when that is all that you target. |

US forces don't hide under the skirts of women or behind our chaplains. Muslim men do. They don't care about life...we do. "Kill them all and let God sort them out!" comes to mind. |

Mo, I have the link to the Brookings Institute report that gives this info in my blog, articule entitled "The Surge."
In August 2006, the US inadvertantly killed 4 civilians that could not necessarily be defined as insurgents.
The terrorists killed 3305 during the same month.

Not just sometimes but always. The car bombs aren't meant for the military, it's meant for the innocent civilians and they kill them a lot. The US doesn't target innocent civilians only when they are guarding terrorist insurgents. |

Neither. More died under the UN oil for food program in the 1990's, making the Saddam by far the largest killer. |

If we killed them all there wouldn't be any insurgency and Bush could take all the oil for his father's oil import business. I wonder why he hasn't thought of that. Maybe he has brain damage from all the drugs and alcohol has used in the 70's. |
