Who has the best special forces in the world?
|
I feel it important to say at the outset, to those who don't know much about the military, assume without foundation and evidence, as well as arrogant and obsessive will most likely start yelling out their own nations forces. Also, when saying this, they seem to feel like this (special forces) is the only thing that matters, that they can win any war because of this. They think the special forces is an army which it isn’t and other things (such as the military itself) will decide the victory. But when based on proper evidence, research and un-biased consideration, it can soon become clear who‘s got the special forces.
From what I know, I believe there are numerous things that make a good special forces unit, the 1st and probably the most important of all, would be will power, the will to fight. One of the sad ironies of special forces is the SAS motto of “who dares, wins”, the only problem is that the ultimate decision is political and thus the question often becomes, does the politician have the balls? Which in current British politics would often be a no, in spite of history. Where as Israeli politicians often have a lot more ball!
The second key requirement, would be technology and capability. The Us Virginia class attack submarine is specially and properly designed for special forces, and a hole host of mini subs, swimming suits and man-torpedoes allow special forces to take on the task at hand. Not to mention planes dropping special forces from high altitude and state-of-the art weapons delivered via both wealth and investment, is often what wins the day. Technology, is also with regard to firepower, the special forces need to turn a group of men into a small army. This is where US special forces score, in the ability to call upon the most powerful air force in the world, and have B-52s, B-1s and B-2s delivering devastating blows to the enemy’s doorstep.
Another key notion, is ability to take a risk (which can also be considered will power), we can’t always ensure victory, so sometimes, you have to be willing to risk the mission. If your not going to risk it, then you’ll never attack and never know. The Israeli’s risked it all on rescuing hostages at Entebbe Airport, chances of success were slim, but they managed to pull it off. A perfect example of the SAS motto “Who dares, wins”. But sometimes it fails, the US delta forces risked it all on rescuing the hostages in Iran, but got caught in a sand storm that brought the helicopters down. Now some stupid people will refer to these mistakes and say this is proof that there not good, well your wrong! It’s quite the opposite actually, it shows they had the balls to risk it. They dared!
Your thoughts and views?
I would like to add, I haven’t said who I think are the best special forces in the world.

A very subjective question. All SF are "special" regardless of which country they belong to.
Kasey C, you posted the following:
US SpecFor has several purposes, one of which is rally indigs and train them, similar to what they did n Vietnam for the Montagnards against VN encroachment. I don't think SAS has these "civic duties", nor does the SEALs.
These "civic duties" as you call them were first tried and tested by the, yes, you guessed it, SAS in the Malayan jungles, this was the "Hearts and Minds" approach which was adopted by the US Green Berets and others. |

I would not for one moment think which country has the best Special Forces, as each country thinks that theirs is the best. You cannot tell me that the Green Berets are better than out SAS, or that the Russian special forces are better than the French or Dutch, or even the Israeli Special forces. We are all on an equal footting in that respect. |

I think that the British Special Air Service are the best special forces in the world. I think this because they have shown the world what they are capable of like the iranian embassy siege. Also many other countries have based there own special forces on the British SAS. But we cant forget the SBS. |

Who dares wins they are picked from the best of the best and then pushed and tested t the absolute limit then pushed some more.
Then maybe they get chosen |

Well Iran seems to have a superior judicial system to the US, so they might have very good special forces as well.
Miss North Dakota is very lucky she has been detained by the Iranians as a spy - and not the Americans. She's been treated fairly and in a civilised manner.
America's special forces are hopeless - as is the rest of their military. After seven years, with the best equipment, the best technology - and the best that West point can produce - they can't even beat the Taliban - who aren't even a proper army. Guess those West Point boys need to go back to school. |

Richard, you're a douche. You dont know jack **** about US SF. What the hell are you talking about West Point for? You do realize that West Point makes officers...not SF guys. And over 90% SF Green Beret's are in the enlisted ranks anyways. And since you think crushing the Taliban in Afghanistan is so easy, why dont you get the **** out of the US and crush them by yourself.
And the best Special Forces unit in the world that is known to the public, is Delta Force.
There are units more elite than Delta Force but nothing is known about them, only members of that force and a select few know about it and what it does. |
