Who here has a father who served in Vietnam?

I do, and he almost didn't make it home. They were in a fox hole and he switched sleeping spots with another guy and well they came under fire. He was shot on the right side of the head just barely missing his temple. If it was over a few inches more he would have been killed. I guess it shattered his cheek bone. He of course was awarded a purple hart. He really doesn't talk about it, I heard these strories from my Mother. I think that it was to awful of an experience for him that he just doesn't talk about it. If you ask him a specific question he will answer it, but a lot of it he doesn't remember do to the trauma.

Anyway, I have always been proud of my Dad, and proud to say that he served in the Army and went to Vietnam. He was also a Draftee so he went because he was forced to.

Now I find my self being a very proud Army Wife!!!!!

My Dad did. He served as an air traffic controller in the United States Air Force in Da Nang and at Quang Tri. I'm very proud of him. He passed away last November and I miss him terribly. He was my hero.

my father was in Taiwan during the Korean war (he got out before Viet Nam)... and I have 2 uncles that were on the ground in Viet Nam

Both of my Parents were Navy Corpsmen during Viet nam. My Father served In country with the Marines, My mother Stateside in re constructive surgery.

Mine did. I don't know for sure what he did there, but I do know that he was sprayed with agent orange, and some of the kids in the family have problems because of it.

My dad was in the Marines during Vietnam, but he didn't go to fight. He was ready to go, when he was one of the few who were randomly picked not to go.

My uncle served two tours in the Marines.

I do - he's got some of the most interesting stories. My favorite is an interesting study of the human brain when under tremendous stress. He says the best sleep he ever got when he was there was when they went underground due to mortars coming in. He just slept through it....that fascinates me. Obviously, his brain wanted to shut out the experience so it allowed for sleep. Wow!

my dad didn't. He was of age, but got lucky with his draft number and decided to get a free pass since he was in college. As soon as things cooled down, he dropped out of college. To this day I don't know if he dropped out because it wasn't for him or if he was just a coward trying to avoid the war.

I served in Iraq.
