Who/how were the gestapo?

I dont know anything about the gestapo, so i was wondering if anyone can help me find some reliable infromation about them.

the gestapo was hitler's elite police force who would brutally arrest people whether they did the crime they were accused of or not. they were led by the burtal leader heinrich himmler who had the possition reichfuhrer-ss or roughly translated empire leader-ss. heinrich himmler had complete control over the gestapo and the ss. the gestapo dressed similar to the ss and all members of the gestapo had the nazi armband. the gestapo ended up turning from a police force to a last defence fighting force in 1945 as the war closed to a end. the getapo was so evil the allied leaders made the desicion of closing down the getapo as part of the de-nazification. when they split east and west germany each side had their own new police force.
