Neither are evil, but both currently have governments which are pursuing very destructive policies. Both have been shining examples to many people in the world in the past, and hopefully can be again one day.

Despite all the problems and mistakes made in both countries, they both offer a hell of a lot more freedoms than any other nation (except, perhaps Great Britain).

Let me guess - you live in America and enjoy all the freedoms but don't do a damn thing to help out - be it local community support or something on a broader scope.
