Who is most likely to surpass America as the worlds military superpower?

no other country has the technology or production capabilities we do, the only way one country can surpass the US in military power would be a union of several countries. such as the EU. I've been tdy to several of our friendly countries and they don't spend near the same amount as we do on training.
Israel would be the only country that comes close to the amount of skill our people posses.
from what I've seen Germany or the UK would come close to us in general training, like field exercises and flight hours etc.
before you say china, i know that aside from having a huge ground army,their pilots only get a few hours of flight time a year, and the infantry in their ground army is more or less a militia, much like a bunch of national guardsman, they get trained for a few weeks and then get refreshers every few months.
but im keeping an eye on those damn Kiwi's.

I think China is catching up. Their economy is improving ten-fold while ours is decling ten-fold. All China needs is logistics for its numbers and some more military technological advances.

Can you imagine a country with China's numbers that has our technological supperiority?

China is the only one that would be close but even they do not have the tech or professional military that we have, not to mention we have thousands of nukes to the 200 they have. They are in the process of developing a better military but that is years away. Also, China's economy was overestimated by about 40% according to the Economist, so there is a lot that is still up in the air to exactly how strong they really are. Russia has the potential to truly be an economic super power as well with the vast oil, gas, mineral deposits that lie in Siberia but they have not tapped them yet.

As to Das Reich-Korea was not allowed to go any further due to Truman being afraid of the Russians coming into the War and it going Nuclear, read your history and they did stop the Chinese and N. Koreans or else we would not have a S. Korea. Vietnam was never lost on the battlefield, even Giap admitted that and if we were truly the ruthless people everyone said we were we could have bombed the dams in the north and flooded the rice fields and effectively starved them to death but it was decided not to be done. Also, the kill ratio for enemy to american dead was about 10 to 1. Iraq, yes, it is bungled but hardly a defeat. I guess you will skip over the first gulf, this gulf wars early combat, panama, etc...?

Veiw it from a military perspective.No other countries is likely to beat the USA.One thing the US should learn is to closely gaurd their weapon as a secret---Don't bloody tell people you are testing a new weapon.China is catching up both economically and militarily.Please be aware that it is likely that China will become a great and difficult Opponent to fight with one day......Sorry I can't tell you more.It is taking the risk of my life.

hmm China is not in any position to really regardless of how well their economy is. I'd say Russia is still most likely.

Military? That's a long way off. America is waaay too in love with its defense department for anyone to catch up; it's one of our only major growth industries. Economically speaking, we'll be down the list in just a few years. Educationally, we're already there. Environmentally? Check. Quality of life? Check again. But our military is bigger and badder than ever.

China is the only candidate to surpass us, but they won't do it until they've spent a few decades ahead of us economically.

If the U.S. continues this economic downfall, and the deficit increases.. China will reign as the other superpower.. I don't think they will surpass the U.S..., But they'll be close.. It will be two, instead of one.. Hopefully, China will be an ally instead of a foe.. Unfortunately, right now... It doesn't seem to be the case.. Maybe a new pres will help that cause... hmmm??

Edit: Duane is a dumbass.. Obama is not talking about cutting the military.. Plain and simple...

America has already been surpassed as the world's military superpower.The United States was outright defeated by North Vietnam in 1975.The United States was unable to defeat China during the Korean War and has been unable to subdue Iraq after five years of war.The United States did manage to defeat Grenada in 1983 but it was a country with a total population of 100,000 people and an army of about 1500.On September 11,2001 nineteen Arab men took down the American superpower with box cutters.Let's face the facts folks.America is in decline.

A lot of countries if Obama gets in because he is going to cut our military 70% also he told a liberal activist group that he will disarm America!

Eric S. I agree with everything you said right up to Vietnam. The U.S. objective was to keep Vietnam from being a communist country. They failed. So who cares about the death ratio. It's like a boxing match where the person who lands more punches gets knocked out or a chess game where a player loses all his pieces but still manages to capture the opponent's king first.

The European union can be compared to an early united states of america, as the states were each a mini-country before the reformation, The eu is the economic superpower in the world, check wikipedia if u don't belive me, has a gdp higher then the us and half of its member states a GDPP higher then the average us. The eu is building the most powerful laser ever, wich can bend space time http://www.physorg.com/news/2011-04-eu-powerful-laser-prague.html We are at the forefront of nuclear fusion power, plasma based technologies, laser physics, and the railgun is a UK invention, so u can pretty much say the eu is the biggest scientific superpower in the world, in the event of a war our technologie will highly likely be superior indicating a superior technological military too, also the most powerful hadron collider in the world at CERN and last but not least, a fully democratic government.
