Who is telling the truth?

How can you be so sure that the British sailors did n't enter Iranian waters? I don't know if they did and i don't know if they did n't.
Its not as though Britain have a reputation for being honest, so how can you take what they tell you at face value. i'm not saying Iran passed their truth lessons either.
But it seems as though you are very trusting?

Mucky, lol my point exactly.

Proof yet again that the first casualty of war is the truth. It will probably take a few judicial enquiries and several years to get any inkling of what actually happened.

Instead of which one is telling the truth maybe you should choose one to side with and then live in their country appropriately....gee I wonder which one you might choose?

We may never know.

No one is telling the truth. All governments are acting in self interest. The sailors were returned because Iran is not ready for a major conflict. Maybe in the future (near future), we`ll hear a different truth.

Zaina.... there is of course a possibility that the UK personnel were in Iranian waters. But there is a possibility that they weren't. The upshot is that for us civilian oiks, we will never know what happened.

And as for trusting our government.... I trust them about as far as I can throw a ball... which isn't very far, as I'm rubbish at throwing.

There is one fact in life when it comes to politics and religion, it causes nothing but trouble. And we, the British people are not informed by our Government for various reasons what is happening - in fact our Government is now a joke and hasn't a clue on diplomacy or anything. George Bush would neuk us all given half the chance, - he's as mad as a barrel full of monkeys. Oh, and God bless our forces who were forced in to a war which is nothing to do with us.

yes and no, think the Brits knew exactly where they were at
in Iraqi waters and had no intentions of a confrontation.
(guessing based on technological info at their disposal and
the fact that the Iranis were looking for anything for some
sort of international incident()

yes. the water was clearly marked with a large oil slick on the iraqi side.

The area of water in which the British Servicemen were arrested has been in dispute for years - long before the current anti-Iranian mood of the West first developed on the fall of the Shah in the late '70s. Having now had the matter 'settled' by the freeing of the fifteen, what is really annoying is the fact that we cannot leave matters be, but have to 'de-brief' the said servicemen over some hours, then parade them to the media for them to justify our Government's moral high ground! So the service persaonnel were interrogated, blindfolded and 'handcuffed', as well as being treated to solitary confinement and had a bit of psychological torture? They were, after all, armed combatants in or close to Iran's sovereign territorial waters. Even by the servicemen's own latest admission, they were 1.7 nautical miles from what the Iraqis consider THEIR borderline. Did not Britain blow the Belgrano out of the water even thoiugh it was well out of a fifty mile exclusion zone set by the then British PM? The British Government have just spent millions on a showcase court-martial where, despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary, only one of the accused (and he 'sacrificed' himself on a plea bargain deal) was convicted of physical and psychological abuse to a group of Iraqi civilians which resulted in the death of one of the civilians and documented physical abuse of the others. This went well beyond what our recently incarcerated servicemen had received at the hands of the Iranians, who were dealing with armed military combatants within or close to its sovereign border..One presumes that the de-briefing the servicemen received at the RAF base in the West Country, was more to do with what our own Government wished to get out than anything to do with the truth! We will probably never know the truth as the seeds of distrust for the British public in its own Government have long since been germinated by Mr. Blair and his cohorts!

Country that has been our ally through several wars and in peace time and supports us in many ways.
Country that has supported our enemies through several wars and in peace time and opposes us as well as vocally wants our downfall.

I don't care. I side with Britain.

Besides, having come from a formally Islamic country I KNOW what Islam has planned for the rest of us.

Iranians will believe that they were right.
British will believe they are right.
As for the truth...who knows?

I know that the U.S. and most nation's naval vessels have GPS which can tell them within feet of where they are located. I also know that Iran has contested where their international water actually begins. There is always the possibility that lazy watchstanders, or an aggressive captain was responsible for them crossing the line - however, it easier for me to believe that Iran was power checking the British Navy and pushing their own political belief in where their international line is located. Iran also have a history of claiming they own the Straits of Hormuz.

Well if Iran was telling the truth they would have taken
the marines and sailors to trial. But they didnt because
they know they were wrong and they had nobody on
their side with this scandal. Also there was about
Three or Four american shipps in that area ready
for anything. Besides We got troops in afghanistan
and Iraq. almost surrounding them.

I consider myself a patriot but as politicians are dictating the press releases, I trust our government no more than I would trust the Iranians.

Some questions remain. What vessel from what country did they stop? Was the vessel going to Iran or Iraq? It's my understanding that The U.N. has given authority for vessels to be boarded and searched for contraband that is headed for Iraq.

Will GPG coordinates support that the British were within their rights? We have yet to hear what the sailors have to say about this. Will they say, we were in international waters, taken by the Iranians? I will wait to see what they have to say.

Iran, why did they take them to start with? They knew why they were there. They knew what they were doing. They knew they weren't attacking Iranian interests.

One thing that has never been mentioned is what vessel they stopped and what it contained. Did the Iranians seize the British patrol ship because they were afraid the British would discover something far more sinister at hand that the Iranians wish to keep secret? Like possibly a shipment of URANIUM or prohibited arms shipments bound for Iran? Or arms or bombs from Iran bound for Iraq?

Sane countries just don't seize one another's navy patrols without reason. Would modern day France seize a British warship simply because it cruised within French waters?

Iran's playing a game and that game's to stay afloat. The whole world has pretty much turned against them. The Iranian government's leaders are looking for all the PR they can get to keep their own people for storming what's left of the Shah's Palace and cutting off their heads.

Today, it's a gift of the Iranian president to Great Britain. Tomorrow will it be a question of asylum asked by the former ousted president of Iran to the British government for assistance to live in Switzerland?

The sailors were in an area was told by the British army it belongs to Iraq while the Iranian consider it Iranian water, that's why both may be correct according to their information. Most probably a secret agreement between the British and Iranian was done about this area. The reason that sailors didn't went to trial was part of the secret agreement. Also the British asked the Americans to stay away of the topic as they want the sailors alive.

ally
get real people. pick a side. decide who are the good guys (and girls). are you seriously saying the Iranians are more credible than the British. look at the evidence that was presented on day one of the incident . the Iranians even ****** up the gps location.look at our navy .look at what they call a navy. have the faith, while sitting in your comfy armchair, that our armed forces don't play politics

its doesn't make a difference really, if it was the case that they were in iranian waters they should have just escorted them back to iraq waters,

but the iranians probably didn't know where they were either

common sense, I don't think any mature, intelligent English man or woman could possibly deny the fact that the Iranian government are made up of lying, power crazed morons who would lie their way to hell thinking it was heaven.

I'm so tired of this nonsense. The British have the SATELLITE TRACKING PLOTS and the statement from the captain of the freighter they boarded. EVEN THE IRANIANS GAVE THE POSITION AS OUTSIDE OF IRANIAN WATERS.

If you want to find a conspiracy then maybe you should quit watching the nonsense on the FOX NOISE NETWORK

Who cares? As an American, I could care less if the British soldiers went to Tehran and mooned the Iranian clerics to their face. America likes the UK - America doesn't like Iran. Got it.

Well they never seem to catch spies do they?

Isn't that funny?

To be fair, if you are American, America doesnt have a history of telling the truth, we just taught you how to do it.

Truth is, you'll never know the truth....

Basically, who would know?
