The Americans would stay neutral as they did with the Falklands, but if they had to take a side, then it would be the English... because the IRA trained the terrorists from Libya, Al Qaeda, Colombia, and many of the rest of the worlds terrorist organisations who are now smacking America.
To the girl who said the Irish troubles were fought in only Ireland, you are wrong... many innocent British civilians (English, Scots, Welsh, Irish and other nationals) were murdered in the war on English soil, in pubs, shopping centres, exhibitions, schools.
And the Irish were at war with England before the so called "troubles", Eire supported Hitler under the guise of "neutrality", and allowed german spies access to England via Ireland.
Ireland belongs to the Irish, and Britain should relinquish the six counties, pull out the troops. Then some of the Irish (those that are more like the people they pretend the Brits are) will blame us for the results of that! However the majority of the Irish will be true Irish, friendly, warm and lovely people to know. |

As it has in the past, the US would jump in as intermediary between the two factions. Taking sides here, would be like siding with one parent over another. That's a no win situation! Understand this, most white Americans are the prodigy of these two countries, therefore we look at these nations with great fondness and respect. Naturally, we would not like to see them at odds with one another.
The Republic of Ireland and Great Britain are not at odds with one another. The problems that do occur are in Ulster, in Northern Ireland, which is also part of Great Britain. This is where the Protestants and Catholics are at odds with one another. This is also where many deaths have occured between the two. Many British soldiers have also been killed and injured here, in an effort to keep peace. In recent years, relative calm has prevailed in this region. Diplomacy has taken the place of terrorist bombings and sniper action from the IRA, against the British and Protestants. Hopefully, this uneasy calm will continue. |

The English. Ireland has offshore gas reserves which we could move in and steal.
Anyway it would never happen because Ireland is a neutral country. If they were invaded by hostile actions, the entire world would be against the aggressors. |

England would not go to war with Ireland, the UK would. England my be a country but only dioes things independantly of the other countries in the Uk when it comes to certain sports such as football.
The USA would side with the UK due to the special relationship Bush has with Blair.
As for the USA only helping us once pearl harbour was bombed this quite simply isn't true. Even before Pearl Harbour the US governement was helping us with the lend lease scheme which enabled them to supply us with weapons without going to war with the axis powers. |

It would never happen.
The English are governed by the BRITISH government.
The British government are the obedient lapdog of the United States, and will be for as long as either Labour or Conservative are in power. There are so many Americans who believe themselves to be Irish, that the US government would never order the British government to attack Ireland for fear of upsetting voters.
Also, there'd be nothing to gain for either British or Irish government. |

God, I hope these individuals who answered this and other questions are not really this misinformed but are joking.The 1810, 1830 and 1850 census showed the South to be made up of roughly 50% Celtic, 30% English and the remaining 20% were German, French or Spanish. The Irish Potatoes famine of 1846-1850 killed a million plus Irishmen, the problem there was food but the British took it for themselves. Another good example of who has suffered under slavery. The real point the majority of English settled up North and continued to this day their opinion of superiority and want of control over our lot. If you don’t believe it just ask one of them. Recently a candidate for President again made fun of us. I will say he need not apologize to or for me I am proud to be a Southroner! We'll side with the Irish today and tomorrow. kamalhussain619... America may be corporate and opportunistic, but we still do plenty to help. We provide billions of dollars of aid every year, twice as much as the next highest country... which is the UK. The USA actually does help a lot. |
