Or do you mean a war BETWEEN China and America, as the first answerer seems to have assumed? In that case either America by nuclear power, and if they restrain from using that, probably China by sheer numbers...

If nuclear weapons were involved there would be no winners. It's called M.A.D. mutual assured destruction. If it were conventional weapons the U.S. has the upper hand because of it's location between 2 oceans and friendly neighbors whereas China has U.S allies on one side and 1 ocean allowing the concentration of U.S. troops. Hopefully we will never see that scenario, the loss of human life would be devastating. Iraq and Viet Nam should have shown the world that you can bomb a country into submission but trying to conquer the population is impossible.

Looking through the answers here, I noticed that everyone who showed patriotism in their country and saying that America would win, got negative votes. Those who sided with China got posative votes. I have even seen a few answers that bash America and make fun of it...by Americans.

Here is my answer - We have already lost every war in the future. When Americans stop believing in their country, we have lost before any war has begun. First, we will lose a war, then our freedom.

What will those that are hating America now think then? Because it will be too late for apolagies.

I think it may depend on who has the first strike and whether its successful with a nuclear attack however that is very unlikely.

More likely would be an extended ground/air/sea war leading to the use of tactical nuclear mines and missiles. Also would depend on where its fought, both sides would need to have an extensive supply line across the Pacific if it was fought on either of their territories, very vulnerable to attack.

USA attacks China:

Attack on Pacific cities, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Macau plus the military cities with superior air power meeting strong air defences with initial US domination followed by stalemate after deployment of Naval reinforcements would slow US landings, followed by China pushing back as its limitless manpower resources outmanouever limited US supply and manpower capability.
The US would also put more emphasis on training and survival than the Chinese would need to meaning long lead times for troop replacement. China is a huge country with a lot less infrastructure for the US to destroy or use to its advantage than the US, and the will of the Chinese people assuming they were behind their leadership would i believe be much stronger - can you imagine the US surviving even a week of food shortages withou total breakdown of society? China lives on that food level everyday.
Also remember the longer a war goes on the less effective your technology becomes, repairs, destruction, cost of replacement, resources needed for replacement and of course enemy changing tactics to nullify it all make high tech less useful after the first shock attack.

China attacks US:

Likely through Canada with fast mobile units pushing through the Canadian defences down to the US Pacific coast cities, being backed up with Naval and amphibeous attacks on same cities. If penetration was successful, massive influxes of troops into western US and Canadian countryside, local vehicle supplies (high vehicle ownership plus many car dealerships) being used to transport troops at high speed (reverse unlikley for US troops in China) with a push in the south to US oilfields and finally New Orleans to close the Mississippi to traffic and threaten the east coast. The US population are heavily armed and this may sway things at local levels, however sheer numbers of Chinese would i think sway it to the point of the US having to use tactical nukes to prevent enemy gains on their own territory.

All in all what i have said is just opinion, at the end of the day either invading the other is an End Game scenario, its much more likely they would war against each other on a third party territory like Taiwan, North Korea, Far Eastern Russia or Indonesia. In fact they this third party war has already been fought in Korea (draw), Laos (US loss) and Vietnam (US loss) with either side being backed by the protagonists in your scenario.

If Nuclear the US but we all would die from the radiation within a year anyway so more case of a draw as we all lose

If it was Conventionally then China out right its Army could raise a force the same size as the entire US population

The way that question is worded it sounds like it is China and America against the World. Of course if China and America were teamed up against the world as a team they would win. China has a huge population and with the military superpower of America and the technology it would be unbeatable.

I think you are really asking China against America. At this point it would still be America. America still is very advanced. China is starting to own America by purchasing bonds when America purchase the cheap products by living the walmart way of life. They laugh a Americans as they purchase the cheap products and they purchase gold with the money. Yeah there are still a majority of poor exploited Chinese people, but China is buying America a little at a time.

Someday the answer may be different. China steals technology from America all the time. American Business does not always want to set up in China because some technology is stolen. That is true of the valuable high tech stuff like Intel.

Someday they will be launching devices at us with our own technology. Check back later and see who is the superpower as America get lazy and dumb.

China has a lot of people and we have the nukes, so it could be a toss up, if we went in a nuked right off the bat we would stand a chance, if it came to a foot battle I would say China, because of the sheer number of people.
