Who would win this battle 10,000 Spartans or 100,000 Marines?

1) Stop confusing the movie 300 with real life.

2) The Battle of Thermopylae was just one battle, just look at the other Spartan defeat by the Persians years before and after that. The only reason why 300 happen was because of their position, the superior training over the Persian forces and their Phalanx formation. After the Phalanx broke, they were easy target.

3) Marines obviously by numbers

4) Marines history prove the world their uncommon valor.

5) At Belleau Woods, 5000 Marines charge a entrench German position of 80,000 Germans arm with machineguns. Lets see...Germans have the numbers and machineguns against bolt action rifle with bayonet Marines...what happen?

6) Also The Battle of Chosin Reservoir, it took 120,000 Chinese troops to repel 30,000 Marines who were low on supplies have were weaken by the cold weather....Wow...what happen?

One marine could beat 10,000 Spartans....either a lone sniper with a seemingly-endless belt-fed 50 cal barret or a minigun...

100,000 Marines would beat 10,000 Spartans before the Spartans even knew the Marines were there.

100,000 marines, hands down. Hard to beat a 10-1 ratio when you do not have superior weaponry and equipment as the Spartans did at Thermopolae.

I would give the edge to the Marines; the Spartans trained from childhood but the training was how to fight with spear, shield and sword and you can't train a three year old with an automatic weapon. Besides the Marines have a 10 to 1 numerical advantage and killing at longer distances means feeling no pain makes no difference if you are dead you don;t feel it anyway. Spartan tactics would not need to be tweaked for the 21st Century they would have to be totally different as standing shoulder to shoulder only makes to a bigger target and increases the odds of a kill by the other side. Actually the Spartans were defeated more then once by more then one group-even the 300 at Thermopylae were wiped out and defeated in a military sense-a very brave stand but saying they were not defeated is like saying Custer wasn't at the Little Big Horn.

wow, that would be one entertaining fight. i would lean towards the spartans bc their fight ethic is far greater then any known today. but with the sheer numbers from the marines it would not be an easy win. what it somes down to in my thinking is a marine is more likely to ahve a will to live and go home to family. on the other hand the spartans fight till death with no regard for life after the fight is over. that mentality is what will allow the spartans to win in the end.

Marines would win because they outnumber the Spartans 10:1. Also they would have the financial support of the U.S. government which means better weapons. Just because you said they both have modern weaponry doesn't mean they both have weaponry of the same quality.

Easily Marines. The Spartans may have equal weaponry, but they lack the military-industrial infrastructure of the United States, in order to support training for their gear. The Spartans may have guns, bombs, tanks, and planes, but that doesn't mean they know how to use them, and a 10:1 ratio presents tough odds to anyone.

We can even assume man to man combat with no weapons. In that case, the Spartan men may take more kills, but the Marines have 10 times the numbers, and will still take victory.

DUHH the Marines. With the technology we have today, 1,000 Marines would dominate 10,000 Spartans I think, but there is absolutely no way to prove this.

If the Marines are so bad why are we still fighting the war now? Shouldn't' they be done now? They do have superior weapons and numbers with air support, after all the Afghanistan's are not Spartans just a bunch of sheep herders. The United states Marines are getting their ass kicked right now with no chance of winning. For their cause is not just nor is it of God or the people they come from. They are being used to take the opium trade not oil. All for the greed of capitalism and the drug companies. The United States battle group is a joke in this theater and has a piss poor champagne and leader ship. If the Afghan's where smart they would exploit the greatest weakness of our troops but they have yet to see it and it is right in front of them. When or if they find it, we will be all done with that campaign, only time will tell. By the way the Marines have their hands tied behind their backs while the U.S. Government is relying heavily on a massive propaganda campaigns to fool the people into submission. So once again arm chair warriors what good are Marines when their own commanders tie their hands behind their backs and let them die just because they have more to spare. There is now way in hell Spartans would let their warriors die for nothing and hand out fliers in battle. So now we know how the Marines numbers count for nothing in battle as they are not used effectively as the fighting unit they are supposed to be. War is not a pillow fight. Unless they replace their military commanders and commander in chief they will never be a formidable opponent on the battle field and their numbers and technology count for nothing. You think the way you do because that is what you are told by the media, not because what you know. Free your mind seek the truth.

Hello arm chair warriors. Most of you did not read the question and that is why you would have lost the battle because of your over confidence with the Marines and Technology. It is David who slayed Goliath with one small stone. History shows us that that overwhelming forces with superior weaponry has been beaten multitudes of times. Look at the Afghans and the Soviet army battle, the Soviet union got it's ass kick by a bunch of sheep and goat herders. That is correct, sheep herders kicked a entire super powers ass and sent them crawling back to their mothers crying while the world looked on and laughed (now they are doing it to us). Over confidence can kill more then just cats as General George Custer showed us all when he was slaughtered by bows and arrows and spears. The American Indians had few fire arms and could barley use them effectively in that campaign and still wiped out the over confident chumps. Wisdom is the most powerful weapon in any battle second only to loyalty and a cause worth dieing for. If not for air superiority Ho Chi Min would have pushed the entire Us battle force out of his country and taken the fight to our home ground. Just think, Ho Chi Min used bicycles to transport supplies and out maneuvered the marines, army and air force. Come on guys it is leadership and cause that wins battles. Not brute force, superior weaponry or numbers. We will soon see, as this will be the case as the next battle will be on US soil and it will be our underground movement that saves the day with small arms fire sabotage and our desire to be free men. Tanks and modern weapons will be as useless as a Popsicle in this new war. If you think technology and superior numbers are going to beet us, then off yourself now because you will just be in the way of real men and real warriors. So arm chair warriors try and pull yourself from that stupid box we call TV and get real. If you are still in the frame of mind that the Marines would win Your a fool with no battle wisdom or fighting skill much less battle tactics. Your inexperience and big mouth just got your forces wiped out (all of them). Just by the comments I have read no one here knows us history and the battle of Independence. If it where not for native Indians and their fighting tactics we would be flying a British flag over our capital today.
