Why Are Marine Corps Recruiter's Called Liars And Other Things Like That?

Nope not many. But once I took my nieghbor which I've known for a while to go and train with me at the marine recruiters office and my recruiter was asking him why he didn't want to join the marines (which I have been a part of for 2 years now) if he didn't see his car,money,and the condo that he owned. And if he didn't want all that and if he wanted to live with his parents for the rest of his life. It was kinda wierd. Now im not saying that that's not a good reason to join but it was kinda hard on the kid.

As a former NCO recruiter and now a recruiting officer I can provide some insight (or opinion to be more exact)

When I was a Recruiter, I worked in a multi-service recruiting station (all 4 services represented). I saw the USMC and Navy do some stuff that..um..to put it delicately...would turn my stomach. But that is my experience. Every recruiting force has it's issues (look at the Army's recent you-tube scandals and recruiter suicide rate).

Bottom line...young kids hear what they want to hear...and recruiters..being salesmen..play on that. RARELY does a recruiter flat out lie. Like I said kids hear what they want and don't have the life experience or sophistication to ask details past the surface.

all branches have some recruiters that lie. when you see it on the news its usually army recruiters. a lot of people arent interested because they cant take the challenge to become a Marine and the Marines dont dangle a sign on bonus in your face

I agree with you, recruiters rellay have a bad rep. My recruiter was extremely helpful and while I was in DEP he called me every month to see how I was doing, even after I signed my contract. He told me the truth about everything, the only thing he wasnt right about was he said we would have two man dorms at medic school, that was hardly the case haha but other than that he was 100 percent with me. yeah its kinda of annoying when your thinking about it and they keep callin and calling but they have a job to do just like everyone and that is their job

Well they're not going to lie right now because of the economy. Bad economy means they've got people lining up to join the military. It's a sellers market.
I've never had a recruiter lie to me specifically, but I've heard many of them mislead others. Specifically about MOSs, getting people to sign up as "Open Contract" telling them that they can only guarantee them a popular job if they go "open contract" first.

Back in 2000 when the economy was really good and everyone except the Air Force was struggling to meet recruiting requirements, it was a different story.

I did get a never ending stream of annoying phone calls from my recruiter in high school till I was about 20, but I tell you what I respect the hell out off all service men and women (especially Marines) I just think recruiters get a bad rep, there only human. I think the problem most people have is because of their own personal views. Naysayers believe there praying on young impressionable kids, and telling them lies.....these (liberal) people will never be happy, they thrive off giving the military a hard time. When you break it down what are recruiters? Basically salesman, there selling youths on the military (not such an easy task these days) and some folks think there tactics are wrong.........there cowards anyways.

I'm sure there are some less than honest recruiters out there; not every military person follows the core values. My opinion is that those who are calling them liars and whining, refuse to be accountable for their own actions. They probably walked into the recruiters office, told them they want to join and did not read their contract before signing. Or, they just took everything said for face value and didn't do their own research. Would you buy a used car based on what the salesman told you, or would you have it checked out by a mechanic first? Same thing!
