While WP is used to mark targets, it can be used as an antipersonnel weapon. In Vietnam, it was called "Willie Pete" or "Willie Peter" and was in morter rounds as well as 105 howizer rounds. It also has a very strong psychological aspect.
Many people do get burned, but some of the burns shown on TV, while severe, were not the burns from WP, which burns continuiously as long as there is moisture in the skin and muscle to support it's combustion. |

UM....there are some retarded answers here, White phosphorus is used for screening, smoke screens....and yes it does burn and can not be easily extinguished....it is not a flare, not used to illuminate, not napalm, not a chemical weapon....they have a ground offensive on and it is being used to screen the maneuver elements of that force, and prevent Hamas from being able to target them with mortar and rocket fire. If you don't know anything about the military or tactics or what things are used for....why answer??? |

Israel's along with any supporter aim is a very clear, they consider all Palestinians are terrorist.

It's used to produce smoke screens. All armies use in in combat. This is not napalm, okay? You know, the stuff the US used in Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia, which burnt the skin off tens of thousands of civilians, killing them very, very slowly. |
