You couldn't be more wrong, Russia's army is not even second rate and it's technology is antiquated.
In any war other than nuclear the Russians would be crushed, in a nuclear war no one wins.

Russia invaded Afghanistan too, and ten years later, withdrew in disgrace. America did the same thing, and within 21 days, the Taliban was defeated.

Oh dear i would study your history you silly fellow you , Russia is a pipsqueak besides America , its weaponry is so outdated Britain could give them a fight .They are flying over our airspace with piston engined bombers that a nat could knock down on a bad day .There submarines are so badly engineered they are frightened to go to sea in them , there navy is in mothballs because they cannot afford to send them to sea and what they have are couldn,t win a fight with hayling island. And there army is fighting with obsolete tanks that wouldn,t last five seconds against modern tanks. If they took on America they would have a mouthful that they would never be able to swallow

I really don't what planet you are from but i can tell you this. Russia though powerful is at least ten years behind the americans in military hardware weapon design and production.

You seem to forget that georgia is a tiny country with hardly any military formations. You also remember that the russians got their butts kicked out of Afghanistan after being beaten by a bunch of poppy growers armed with american anti aircraft stinger missiles.

Now then look at what america is achieving in the Afghanistan, you ll see that the taliban is being beaten back and Will be beaten once and for all in the next year by the efforts of US and british forces that are operating there . Russia is good but is nothing more than play ground bully when it comes to international affairs.

Look I can sort of see where you might think USA might have lost some military strength, but that is because our troops are spread way too thin between Iraq and Afghanistan, but if you did but the military together from both of those places we do have the best military in the world.

The only country that could compete with us would be China, but they do not have the military hardware to do that. They only have a huge number of people.

I'm not a fan of America, as frequent answers prove, but to suggest the Russian military is stronger than that of the USA is blatantly ridiculous. And rather than increasing in strength, it is largely suffering from under investment and shrinking due to the military being seen as substantially less of a legitimate threat tool in the current era as it was under the Communists.

The last thing Russia needs is to antagonise the US, because they don't need to. You are talking about a nation with vast oil and natural gas reserves which the world is queueing up to buy.
And did you see those tanks rolling into Georgia? They are not state of the art, by any stretch of the imagination. Being good enough to defeat your smaller, much less powerful neighbour is one thing. But you're being silly if you think that means they could beat the best supplied and financed military machine in the world. A British Challenger Two could outgun and outrun those things. An Abrams MBT is of a similar standard. Twenty year old Russian designs would not last long.

the usa is still all around the most powerful but with the current economic situation itdefinately is taking a hit. the constant warfare also causes undue strain to the economy. the us is suffering from it's own success. when you're this big and powerful it becomes hard to protect all of your interests. this is the same problem that rome ran into. in my humble opinion, the moral decay of america really has an impact on it's effectiveness and the lack of regular citizen being willing and able to participate in the miltary adds to the weakening of america's position as well. china just showed with that opening ceremony that they are making a big push right now and with their economic positioning its hard to argue that what they are doing is effective. they have many issues as well but they have a tighter grip on their society which makes it a bit easier to move forward when compromising things need to be done to maintain order and control. i'm not saying it's right but we're strictly talking about power and it's maintenance

1-The US has superior fire power.
2-In a nuclear war no one wins
3-The American soldier is very expensive and only fights where he has the advantage, like against civilian insurgents or dropping bombs from aircraft.
4-The American people do not have the stomach for long engagements and would not want to fight with an adversary of heavy means like the Russian or the Chinese.
