Why are AMERICANS so aggressive and violent?

When confronted by a threat, we eliminate it. That is why so many other countries have depended on us to save them from threats like Hitler, Tojo, Communist Empire, etc. That is why the UN depends on us for muscle when it needs to solve a problem like Saddam sending tanks into Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.

I think it has something to do with the straight-talking, straight-shooting cowboy tradition. We have little use for high-falootin' time wastin' talk when action is necessary.

Regardless of what anyone here answers, you are going to continue to believe your illogical and baseless beliefs; it's YOUR right to believe what you so desire to believe in. HOWEVER, the fact that you believe something doesn't make it true.

Americans, as a rule, abhor and despise violence and war because we have HAD to be violent and have had to engage in wars, many times to help other less fortunate countries and our allies. WE give aid in the form of food and pharmaceuticals and medical assistance and education to more countries all around the war than any other two nations, and we're despised for this and we have made enemies for trying to promote human rights to all people regardless of socio-economic levels, regardless of gender, ethnic make-up, etc. We have many enemies because we promote democracy... we're hated by those who would rape, pillage, abuse human rights and enslave people.

IF we are such horrible people and our nation is so terrible, why is it that people from all around the world are trying to come here and raise their children? Can it, perhaps, have anything to do with our guaranteed human rights, equality, civil rights and guaranteed Constitutional rights, liberties and freedoms where people can live without government/political oppression?

Perhaps you can't understand that? Let's see, suppose an intruder attacks your neighbor... what do you do, stand by and watch or do you help your neighbors? The answer to that will pretty much explain what YOU are made of.

ONE thing you can be sure of: we, Americans, do NOT brainwash people! Have you ever visited our country? We have problems here, too, and our government often sacrifices our own poor, elderly, disabled, retired, those living in substandard housing and our own homeless and our own educational system by helping other nations with billions of dollars that would otherwise make our lives so much better and easier, but helping others is a priority, especially as they experience famines, droughts, mass starvation, malnutrition, epidemics, sicknesses and poverty or the effects of civil and/or ethnic or genocidal wars. Still, we have enemies who would promote exaggerated lies.

Yes, we have some within our population that are bitter and angry with other nations denigrating our efforts, because they've had to make sacrifices and see how other countries still find fault with us. It is sometimes difficult for me to blame them. Bottom line, we can sit and talk to those like you and waste time or we can proceed in doing what YOU are not doing... helping others in need.

We help everyone around the world, but WHO HELPS US when we suffer flood, hurricanes, tornadoes, earquakes... NO ONE except our good neighbors, the Canadians (bless them all).

But, again, you have the right to believe whatever you want to believe, however wrong you are in doing so. Go ahead and call us all the foul names you want, continue to denigrate us and HOPE you never need our help!

That is a gross missperception and generalization.

We American's voted last November and gave the House and Senate to the Democrats - the party that opposes Pres. Bush's methods. We want peace and we want out of Bush's misdeeds.

I believe you are right with your perception though, but only for one reason. Pres. Bush is the leader of America and people of other nations percieve the citizenry based on who they know through the various news mediums. I do not doubt at all that we do look like war-mongerers because of that madman, but quite largely we would rather just live in peace without bloodshed.

Americans are not aggressive and violent. We are one of the most powerful countires in the world because we take action when it is needed to keep the world from getting worse. Sometimes it's not good to just sit back and let other people do bad things. Being passive when it comes to running a country will get you nowhere.

they are not. they don't constantly kill eachother over religion and land, they don't have extremist groups blowing innocent people up. they don't have groups of hooligans that cause riots at sporting events. is this enough or should I keep the list going on how other countries are alot worse.

You can't generalize all of us like that.

But quite a few of us can trace our bloodlines back to the Revolutionary War era... our ancestors fought for our freedom, so we continue that tradition.

That is a stereotype. Not all Americans are violent. It's like saying that All Middle-Eastern people are terrorists. They are not. So why is America any different? You are looking at the president's position. If one person in America is violent, does that mean all are? No. You also might be thinking of what the news is saying. They report on mostly the violent things. That is how they get ratings. But do you hear about people volunteering at a homeless shelter, or raising a benefit concert? I don't hear about it a lot. You just have to remember not all people are the same.

i think one of the reasons we come off violent (wich we arnt) is because our nation has so much military power that wars that other cou8ntries tae years to fight we can do in days our tactics are more aggressive because our military responds faster to command than any other on earth our efficiency scares dictators and tyrants

Americans are aggressive and violent only when the opposition is weak. The general way of bullies. They attack and invade Iraq after it was under sanctions for a long time. They attack from far away. Some one bombed them on 911. The alleged mastermind of that act is still out there somewhere. Americans cant do a thing about it.
They invaded Iraq saying WMDs. But when DPRK actually test nukes americans look the other way. Not confident enough to go to war there. Then they cry foul and look for sanctions with the help of its traditional pim*ing allies. Or wont touch Iran. They want sanctions first. They have invaded a small country called greneda some time back , I think. Country with nothing much of a defence.
So much for aggression. Violent? may be. There kids go to school to shoot a few buddies or teachers.

People around the world are aggressive...I think the mistake is made because The world media is focused on America for obvious reasons..and it being today's only super power.!
The fact is in this world there are hundreds of conflicts and most of them don't involve America but people and media pay little attention because America is not at the center !

I wouldnt generalize to that extent.

I would however go about as far as saying nearly half of Americans are aggressive and violent.

They start wars for no good reason, and think everyone is out to get them so they kill everyone that is suspect before they can do anything.

Half of us just had to sit back because we didnt have any power until about a month ago.

I don't generalize all Americans as aggressive. But when a nation acquires power and its leaders are greedy, then the result is war and aggressiveness. They go on searching for reasons to be war with other nation. See Iraq, first it was WMD, then saddam, and now what ?? Still the war continues. See one answerer is saying it is to keep their right to use Ipod, TV etc. They don't see condition of people where US attacked unjustly having to sleep anytime expecting their home to be bombed by US planes and helicopters flying over them. What ever they do, bomb hospitals, schools etc, they will say terrorist were hiding there. These so called peaceful war mongers can enjoy when they create hell over other places.
