to all the people that answered this question with some stupid remarks about how soldiers can roll grenades and still be called heroes... i don't see you complaining about the way of life you have... or the fact that you can walk out on to your street and not have to worry about being shot or killed....
you need to hush your mouths and thanks a soldier or marine or seabee... for defending your rights to do that.... just remember that if my husband and neighbors wasn't in the "sandbox" defending your right then your lazy *** might have to be over there... if my hubby didn't believe that defending others rights and freedom was important you might be drafted or better yet the Iraqis of insurgents would be here.. taking away that right from you.....
thank a soldier for your right to be stupid......
thank a soldier for leaving his family to defend yours.....
thank a soldier for putting up with loud mouths and still being proud to serve his country....
thank a soldier for missing their sons 1st birthday to insure the insurgents don't come here so you can see your sons birthday..... |

Good points and i've totally asked myself that before. I think alot of people in our country seem to take our military for granted and are quite unthankful. But you know what, this thanksgiving i just want to thank all the military men and women who protect are freedom. |

They Are quick to down talk it because they have no life. Also, they need to shut their Trap. The Military risks their lives everyday keeping them safe. They need to go out their and fight since they want to down talk the Military. |

Well said brother. Everyone watches cnn or some news program and sees all negative BS. I never hear anything good that the soldiers are doing. Didn't even hear about that new statue (the one with the soldier leaning over the combat boot and m-16 and the Iraqi girl is comforting him). People need to understand that the media is always full of ****. Stop protesting, read a book, or go sign up.
(good luck mr. A-z) |

Its been like that ever since Jane Fonda went to North Vietnam and blasted the U.S. and its soldiers. This was used as hate fodder all over college campus's and wasn't a fun time to be a soldier--I should know--I served in Nam. |

Fully agree with you and the military. The Congress authorized to support the action, the destruction of the World Trade Center is forgotten, The Congress which supported the incursion does an about face, denying their complicity and labeling it " Bush"s War ". And these muttonheads who never served a day in their lives criticize the military.Like Hillary Clinton. She was against the war, voted to restrict the spending for the military and has the moxie to say she wants to be " Commander -in- Chief" ? |

I am not in the military, and have said the same thing a million times atleast! i tell them to back away from the keyboard and go see a recruiter! |

Because, they never realize what they have, until it's gone.
Fortunately, there are people standing a watch for them. People that do the most necessary of task to allow everyone that freedom.
People that do a job with no thought of Glory, or the sacrifice they are making. They just do it because it's right.
The people that spout their venom will never know that feeling of being the person that stands the watch, and that makes a difference in their world, and doesn't bat an eye at the mindless tantrum of a jealous child.
Soldiers stand that watch. |

Its their right, the constitution remember.
Dosen't make them right...just fools who have nothing better to do with their life. Its sensationalism, and a way to get into the public eye, like hanoi (Bagdad) Jane. They are media adicts (some are heroin but who's counting how many times HJ has been in rehab??not me) |

Ironically it seems to have started in large part during the 60s right AFTER JFK said "dont ask what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country."
I'm not sure what started the counter culture but I wish it hadnt happened.
The anti-military sentiment is more wide-spread than it seems. Alot of people pretend to be anti-war but PRO-military because they know its UNpopular to be anti-military.
Being against the war is motivational to the dudes shooting at us and hence Anti-military in a very deadly way.
You dont have to Support the war. I'm just saying if you disagree with it, SHUT-UP about it rather than risk motivating the enemy.
Or just be honest and be openly against the troops if you're going to undermine us and our mission.
Douche-bags. |

Because the SHEEPLE have been conditioned to dis the military...
And having a President and CinC that does TREASONOUS behavior doesn't help....
Send the whole US Congress to the front lines & see how long they would last....
Every REMF needs front line duty... |

That is one of the best questions I've heard tonight. I believe the same thing my uncle fought in Vietnam, my dad fought in desert storm and my grandpa fought in ww2. I am thankful for the military and God Bless all those who serve this country. Those who down the military should stop running like cry babies and go out there and fight. My dad died shortly after he came back from desert storm so I feel for those family's of soldiers. |

i believe it was John Glenn, who said, "If you can read this, thank a teacher. If you can read this in english, thank a veteran."
you are right though, about people who run thier mouths about the military. they dont realize the freedoms that we have stood up to protect. there are many places in the world that do not have the freedom of speech, or any of the other freedoms that we as Americans enjoy. Hell, most people take them for granted, and it's sad. |

You have to differ between the mission or the soldiers being criticized. Most critique goes towards the mission, especially the Iraq war which is nothing you as a soldier can be blamed for, but it's the politicians that are blamed and at least IMO they deserve that.
Don't take everything said against the war as a personal insult. |

You have my personal support, but you chose that life...there is no draft. I respect what you do, in a sense, but can't imagine why...I'm not saying it's right, but people are it's much easier to criticize than do. |

It is not criticism of the Troops to point out that the Mission is a bad Mission which Iraq is, A BAD MISSION!
Understand the difference. As a Troop you have no choice in the matter, we understand that and we are not being critical of you or the others who are in the Military.
I was in the Air Force during the early part of the Vietnam War, and the right wing of the Republican Party hide behind the Troops to criticise those who realized the War was a loser.
It was a loser because it was a lie to begin with. Vietnam happened because the United States cheated and did not have an election when they had promised to have one. They just worked behind the scene and the appointed a leader of South Vietnam. The right talks a lot, but they don't even know the truth about the facts of history.
Diem was appointed by the United States to be the leader of a new Government in the South of Vietnam called, The South Vietnamese Government. It was not a real Government of the Vietnamese people. They voted for North Vietnam.
The Republicans just lie so they can continue to control politics in American and other places in the World.
I am proud of you as a United States Military Troop, but the War is not the Military. The War is politics gone mad! |

The military is rough, both physically and mentally. Damages a lot of people for life. I honor our soldiers and also pity them for their losses. Best life decision I made was not joining the military. |

I find your assumption unconvincing.
I note that it is always in times of war that we seem to lose our freedom of speech.
Are you telling me that the soldiers protecting oil interests in Iraq have something to do with my Constitutional or my inate rights? I can't buy that.
For me, I don't talk the military, but I certainly don't have much good to say about that flawed part of human character that cuases the military to be needed.
At this point, since I don't particularly see that military protecting anyone's rights, I question your whole premise. |

Because freedom of speech is an innate human liberty, not one we need a man with a gun to tell us we're allowed to have. What is that implying, that they think it's their place to delegate out what we say and do, and that we should thank them for the grace of allowing us to communicate our thoughts and feelings? How ridiculous. Better question- why is it that so long as you're in the military it doesn't matter if you roll grenades into civilian's houses, they still call you a hero? How would we feel if foreigners were "hero"-ing up our soil? What's so admirable about that? |
