Because I leave next month, and I know there's a possibility I might go but didn't know it was a definite.

There are all sorts of places you could end up at. A friend of mine joined in 2003, and he's been to Iraq 3 times, and is currently in Afghanistan. Or you could end up like my cousin who is deployed in Korea. There's no telling where you could end up. |

it really depend on a lot of things. your mos, where you're stationed, etc. but if you're joining a combat mos, you can pretty much plan on going. for the larger portion anyway. if you do have to go, just roll with it, it's a part of the job |

No you may go to Afghanistan instead. But you are going to go to one of them for sure. A friend of mine has been to Iraq 2 times and will be going to Afghanistan in August. He goes about every other year and the last time was in Iraq for 15 months. |

The odds are fairly high right now, notice all the advertising by the military recently, even on myspace? They need more people. But no not eveyone who joins goes. I'm national guard and even I'm going soon. Odds are higher than most people like. |

No it isn't true. It is more likely you will be sent to Afghanistan.
Iraq really isn't that bad. Hubby didn't mind it. Afghanistan is horrible.
Oh and to LionLove, If he is just now in BCT there is no way that he will know that he is going anywhere. *rolls eyes* He still has to go to AIT and then get to his first duty station. Stop feeding rumor mills.
No recruit knows where he is going after AIT let alone if he is going to be deployed in Iraq or Afghanistan. |

Because that is where you will more than likely wind up.
There's a war on and it's not gonna stop anytime soon.
If not Iraq it will be Afghanistan.

I have a friend who is also shipping next month, and he learned that it's definite he's going there. They may be trying to wrap things up there as soon as possible. He's going to back up the Iraqi police, and train them to handle everything by themselves. I don't know for sure, though that everybody is going there. Try contacting the group you're going with. I know he basically had to harrass them before he found out. |
