Its just friendly $hit talking thats all. In the end when someone shoots at the army the marines will shoot back, and vice versa. We are all on the same team. No one is better just different. Congrats on your enlistment. Good Luck. |

I imagine it is because there is a friendly rivalry between the military branches. (a least it is friendly until alcohol is introduced into it, then I hear it can get pretty out of hand, until they meet again in combat.) |

The inter-service rivalries are usually for fun (Navy are taxis, Marines are human shield), although you'll get some rare idiots who take it too personally. But that's not all, even within the branches there are certain rivalries. I can't speak for the Marines, but in the Air Force, there are different profession rivalries [fighter pukes (fighter pilots), and trash haulers (cargo plane pilots)], MAJCOMs (SAC, TAC, MAC for the old guys), and more.
It's not a bad thing if it does not go too far. It builds pride in ones own unit, and since it is most often in jest, it's a way of blowing off some steam. |
