Why are so many active military turning against the war?

Their family members are turning against the war too. Why? Just because they (Military Members ) go back to Iraq 3 or 4 times that should make them turn against the war? What is going on here?

First hand experience is the only way to know for sure. One might deduce that the conventional military response can not and will not adequately deal with the guerrilla tactics employed. Vietnam is the historical example. |

In today's military, too many entered it because they could not get any other job. When they found out they may actually have to go into battle, their yellow bellies start to show. Fortunately, this is a small minority. All the military I have spoke with KNOW that what we are doing there is right, and needed. |

Why are so many active military turning against the war?
Because Fighting for peace ... is like making love for virginity.
Truth be told the fact that our military is micro managed from Washington leaves them unable to do their jobs,

TRUE PATRIOT

Because the media only wants to show negativity toward the war. In the real world I rarely hear of soldiers against the war. My husband is a soldier and I am very proud of him. He joined to serve our country not as a last resort.
To those who joined to make a better life for yourself, you make us proud. What you do everyday is amazing and is helping our future. You should be proud of yourselves and don't let people who have nothing better to do than bash the war on their little computer put you down. You are true hero's |

I love the sarcasm in your question. At least those who are actually fighting it have a right to turn against it, vs. the people who never served or retired 30 years ago. |

Maybe they are tired of seeing their friends and family die. Maybe they don't believe we're over there for the right reasons. Maybe they're sick of being there for a year only to return home to be with their familes for a few months and they're sent back for another year. |

I'm a military wife, so the war is certainly a topic of frequesnt discussion in the house, on the phone and at the bus stop.
I have yet to meet a soldier, sailor or airman who, after having done a deployment for the war, have come back to say they disagree with the war. Quite the opposite....once they have been there and come back, most military members will say they realize how much of a difference our troops make in the region.
Where the dissent is coming from, however, is how the war has been handled from the beginning. Military members were lied to just like the general public, sent into battle without the appropriate protection or information. Families are left with little information on the where abouts or safety of their miliary member, often finding out more from CNN then they do from their own commands. And, while the general feel of the country was extremely supportive of the military and the sacrifices of it's members after 9/11 and the beginning of the war, this support has waned in recent months. The public's anger and frustration should be directed to the government and military leadership...not to the enlisted men and women who are doing a job they feel strongly about doing. And all this at a time when the military pay and benefits have been unable to keep up with the general economy. SO yes, many of us are frustrated with the reasons and the government who decide where we go and what we do, but we know that our involvement has made life better for millions of people. |

We are not. We are frustrated. We see no end in sight. It is hard leaving your three year old daughter for a year to fight in a war. We all signed up voluntarily, but that doesn't make the process any easier.
And no, most people I know in the military left good jobs to live a less selfish life. |

YOU are the one against the war or any military, Erudite. You constantly come on here trying to start things and get reactions from people. Your game is sick and old.
That said, we've been in the Army 18 years. He's deployed 3 times, so far. We don't hate military life, nor do we hate war. Nobody we know is against the war and we know alot of people. In this long of a career, that happens. Those that have turned their back on this war probably joined for the benefits. Now that they're asked to do their job, they don't like it. I met one of those the other day, in fact. But he was on his way out, so one less to worry about.
Just because you couldn't handle a military career and play with the big boys, doesn't mean everyone thinks the way you do. Once again, I suggest you seek professional help. People like you only bring morale down. You do nothing to deserve the freedoms and rights you have. |

cause its all fine and well when someone else dies or is crippled for life, but when it could happen to you or someone you know its different. For the weekend warriors over there they are realizing that they arent trained well enough with their one weekend a month and its just not worth it for the college money. The actual soldiers are probably wondering what they are doing playing cops over there with big targets on their backs, even they must know that the war is basically about oil, else they would have secured the weapons depots and strategic points before protecting the ministry of oil. |

As the wife of an active duty sailor, I will answer this. It is because they do not believe in the reasons for the war. My husband signed up to make this his career because it's what he wanted, not because he couldn't get another job or is stupid. He is ok with risking his life to save our country and protect it, but not to feed into the greed of our current president and oil companies. I think that those who support the war should be offering themselves. |
