Why are so many military people republicans?

I think you've touched a very sensitive point, lol. And made a very good one.

In my opinion, the reason comes down to war and guns. Most/Many democrats are pro peace and and anti-guns or for gun control, and the aspect of violence turns them off. Republicans on the other hand, love guns and war. I think it's like an adrenalin rush for them. Combined with the fact that they are told it's okay to kill and play with guns if it's for the right cause, it's just the kind of job republicans like. Stereotype, yes, but also true.

And not that this matters but you got me thinking......Marines are also the best lovers.....I dated a Marine in college, and he had the scruples of a weasel. But damn.....he was good.

It's not about morals but more about ideals.

Republicans, which are called liberals in other countries believe in industry, reward for effort and despise socialism and tight government control.

Democrats, which are called labour or tories in other countries believe in social equality, welfare and rule by consensus. These things are at odds with the way the military is run.

Any political party that pretends to be more godly is a lie. God loves those who help themselves - that's liberal. He also believes in justice for the poor, that's labour. It's easier for the liberals to hijack Godliness as tight government control can be tied to so called patriotic ideals, clean living and collective effort for good. Democracy seems a little bit communist, plebian and not so clear cut when dealing with the "great unwashed" - the common public.

But this is a way to think about it:

If you don't vote Democrat as a youn person - you don't have a heart. if you don't vote Republican as an old person - you don't have a brain.

When you were a Marine as you state above, and you went out to do what ever you did on your own time, you were individuals. Individuals that apparently didn't uphold the morals and ethics of your Corps. Doing what you explain above has nothing to with being a Republican or a Democrat. However, your actions were more aligned with Bill Clinton's action as our Democrat President.

You're also way off base by alleging that only Republicans believe in God.

I'm not really too political, but I'll point out what I've noticed over the last few years. The Democrats have always tried to undermine our military. Even called them names and made false accusations. Tried to cut off funding, and discourage positive reports from military accomplishments. This is why our young military people come home as Republicans, I think anyway.

Praying to god to summon the courage to move forward is frowned upon by the socialists because it is an idea they can't control because they won't teach it. They control education. Sounds like you served defending the teachers union. When some one is trying to kill you it is easy to find god and I know this is ancedotal but I knew Athiest who called out to god when they were scared witless, so you call out to some entity that you don't believe in. For those athiests the reason went away when the sink hit the fan. Where do you come off saying Dems want equal rights for all Americans? Dem's want more rights for criminals and more money for welfare and illegal immigrants. That does not somehow in anyway equal the same treatment for all Americans. If you're a crook, you want Dems in office. If you're on welfare, you want Dems in office. If you're an illegal immigrant coming here to be a crook and on welfare you want Dems in office. Meanwhile, I work, pay for my own college and get zero public assistance. And I'm a legal citizen that speaks only English. How am I being treated fairly because I obey the law and go to school on my own dime?

I'm not a Republican or a Democrat...I vote for who I think is the best person for the job. It just so happens the people who I have voted for the past 2 elections were Republicans. Why? Well, let's see, they cut taxes and give servicemembers like me pay raises. At this point in our lives what we need is a republican president who can protect us from those who want to kill us. The men and women in the Armed forces know that is what is most important. We can't just get ourselves a democratic president, stop the war and hope all is well. That would be crazy thinking. There are people who want to kill all Americans. We can't talk them out of it or reason with them either. My son is in Iraq right now. He's been there for 2 years. He says if we get a democratic president who pulls out the troops there will be genecide and we'll be be back over there. Also, he says, Al Queda will swarm over here. Military people know what will happen. That's why they are republicans.

Basically because right now we are "King Of The Hill" and the Republicans realize that many other nations and cultures are determined to bring about our down fall, and they are therefore determined to defend our nation, whereas the Democrats take the position of the ostrich by sticking their heads in the sand.

As a personal note, your attitude and morals bring shame to the Marines, a proud and honorable part of our military. You have done them a great disservice and therefore, in my mind, you have not earned the right to criticize the behavior or morals of others.

I was a sniper and kept to myself because I was part of a unit we all acted on our own missions. I was never had any discipline problems or was a animal and always treated women with respect. I was a sniper for 18 years and was perfectly happy to go out blow someones head off and come back to base and be a good boy. I did some research and those who's specific job was to kill people like snipers, never have the problems you speak of and keep a very low profile when they become a civilian like I do now.

I think you are following too many stereotypes. I think you have morals, religion, and politics all confused. First of all if you did what you say you did in the Army they would have your balls on a steak. Yes I agree most young guys in the military go our and try and get layed by as many SINGLE girls as they can. But cheating on a fellow service members wife or anyones wife? Shame on you.

Second there are many different types of Repulicans and Democrats. They join their parties for different reasons. Most of the people I have met in the Army are actually Independents.

Third, there where about 2 guys that attend our chaplains service in Iraq every month out of a company of well over a hundred. If it gets some guys out of work then they will go to religious services but many guys in the Army are not religious. Some are but many are not.

when the military had to actually work and do their jobs in this war before it was a way to get money - party - medical and education paid for without having to do anything but have fun like you said or go through training ...now that their lives are at stake and they are either whining like this or they are making sure god is with them during the war because it isn't a game of military playing like you want it is the real thing that happens when one chooses to join the military if you didn't want the truth i am sorry but when you all joined was you honestly so naive that you thought you was going to a party??? i think not we all know military is a risk when you sign up so stop complaining about god he is the only one who can protect our soldiers that are in it for the sake of protection America. really rep is the one who thinks we need to stay in Iraq when the Dem's what to bring them home? then why the heck do the Dem's care if it's all rep there ? by the way no one made you or the other join it was your choice.
