Why does everyone expect the military to come to their rescue?
You're on a merchant ship in waters where pirate attacks are commonplace, and then you act surprised when you get boarded by pirates?
Newsflash - merchant ships will remain targets of opportunity until they start defending themselves, like they did in the old days. Arm the merchant ships (and train the crews to use the weapons) and the pirate problem will resolve itself.
Last time I checked Maritime law, piracy on the high seas was still punishable by death... |

EXCUSE ME WTF R U DOIN?

Do you know what a hostage situation is? It's when people are trapped, held captive by bad people, say, pirates. The negotiators (us) try to keep the hostages alive. So if we actually started firing on the ship right now, one of two things would happen:
1) We would BLOW HIM UP.
2) The pirates would KILL HIM.
So now we need to figure out option 3: how to get that hostage out of their alive using actual tactics and strategy. We won't go the way of the French and storm in only to have our hostage killed. |

America currently has a weak Commander-in-Chief.
Obama does not even want to ANSWER THE MEDIA'S QUESTIONS on the issue, because if he doesn't have a TelePrompter, he does not know what to say.
We should have elected a President who has earned his salute - Senator John McCain. |

Because we are letting them!
If Obama had his way we would go out there and have tea and crumpets with them! |

America is gonna finally negotiate with terrorists (pirates) and become targets till we get a backbone.
I love when people say send in the Navy SEALs. Have you seen the boat the pirates have? Its so small they are basically shoulder to shoulder, and you want to send a team of SEALs on board? Glad you arent in my military. |

I doesn't make the military look weak.
Yeah, the Navy is just staying nearby, but what are they going to do? You can't use snipers, for one, I believe their in an enclosed life raft, and two, the bobbing of the water add to unreliable shots.
Are they going to storm the little life raft? I'm sure if they were to, one pirate would quickly end the captain. Or just blow the raft up with the one they're trying to save in it?
Anyway, with news available as it happens, I doubt the Navy is going to leak out any plans to get this guys back to safety. |

wonder how long the pirates can survive on that little boat of theirs. Since they can't go anywhere I really hope they are well stocked up in supplies.(HA) All the Big War Ships have to do is wait them out.* |

its the same thing as when SWAT and police negotiate with bank robbers that hold hostages, it doesn't take a genius to figure out that if we act then the hostage will die |

We already have the middle east to deal with.
It's not worth doing a full scale operation on Somalian Pirates.
The thing is hint hint that sureee the news tells us the Navy isn't doing anything, but how do you know maybe the SEALS are kicking *** right now?
That's right.... you don't. |
