Why are the Somali pirates holding an American merchant captain still alive!!!?

Why hasn't Hussein ordered sniper teams to kill the pirates using night vision gear yet??? Why have the other pirates who have come to help their friends ( http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/world/la-fg-somali-pirates11-2009apr11,0,3373558.story ) not been used for target practice? Isn't this the sort of thing we train Navy Seals for??? Is Hussein reluctant to kill the pirates because he might be related to them???

As someone already said, the idea is to get the guy home alive. They are not sitting in some little open dingy as has been thrown around. They are in an open ocean survival boat and they look like this:

Find a sniper that can figure out who to shoot when there are 5 people inside something like this and maybe you could. Last time I checked Stevie Wonder wouldn't make too good of a sniper. Nightvision or infrared does not give enough detail through solid materials. Maybe they should just wait until the captain tries to escape again and snag him

Kinda sticky situation... The pirates with the Captain are in a life boat so the captain is probably in such close proximity to the pirates that there's not a clear shot. On the flip side, that's the only reason this Captain is still alive. The pirates know the US is not going to negotiate a ransom for his release, but they also know if they kill him, the USS Bainbridge has no reason not to blow them and any other ship in the area from here to kingdom come. I'm with you though, all the other pirate ships in the area should just be floating debris by now.

**Edit** Darkest Star, funny how easy it is to speak about things you now nothing about. Growing up I had a friend who lived with us for more than a year because his parents were taken hostage. It took Carter more than a year before they were finally released. How would you like it if that was your parent? Your kind of ignorance is just not tolerable.
