Why are the american soiders in iraq?

No matter how the war started, answering your question as to why they are in Iraq now, is to keep another another genocide like Yugoslavia and Rwanda from happening and spilling to other countries in the region. The Shites, Sunnis and the Kurds all have different aims and beliefs. The leaders of the Shites and Sunnis are trying to make it into a religious war but that doesn't stop the fact that they both suffered under Saddam Hussein.

The Sunnis, of which Saddam was one, is the minority population but because Saddam ruled with a bloody fist, it controlled the majority primarily comprised of Shites. Let's not even go into the Kurds since they also have their own agenda but have also suffered under Saddam. Let's just say that at least 100,000 Kurds won't have a chance to pose the same question you asked... since they were killed by Saddam.

Unfortunately, American soldiers are in Iraq to decrease the bloodshed between the three different factions and are not even appreciated. In fact, they are paying for that lack of gratitude with their lives.

It's a tough call for anyone to make, keep the presence there to decrease a possible repeat of what the Serbs did in Yugoslavia, what the Huttus did to the Tutsis in Rwanda, etc., etc., etc. or recall them to decrease American, British and other countries' number of deaths.

I think historians will be able to make more sense of this conflict later but it's hard for us since we are in the thick of it.
One thing to remember though, many times when America tries to shut off the outside world, we end up getting drawn into conflict even more, i.e. World War I, World War II. It's a hard role for the US since it's the only superpower left and it HAS TO balance it's use of that power to avoid looking like Big Brother with a big stick.

We have to stay there because our withdraw will bring them back as a rally point. This war against Islam Fascism is going to be long and heavy casualties. We have to fight to the death. I own a colt 45 and I am willing to fight them on the homefront because I am medically unable to join the Army to fight them there. If you ared able body, I consider you a coward for not taking them on because of 9/11/2001

We are there to try and get some of the freedoms that we love to take hold and grow in the region. I am talking of the freedom of speech and freedom from want and to pray to who ever you want to. So until the government of Iraq can stand for it self we need to be there. We have been in other countries a lot long then this. It would be better if other places were not trying to mess it up. Yes I know some will say the we are there unwelcome but you need to stop and dig the rest of the stories up and see the good we are doing there.

American soldiers are in Iraq because Congress, including the Democrats, gave Bush approval to invade Iraq. At the time Democrats were pushing the WMD's theory which had its roots in the Clinton administration.
