Part of the answer is that for many who are weak willed, support is based upon the results of opinion polls. After all, we wouldn’t want be on the side that the media has deemed ‘unpopular’. I’m sure you have seen this type; they place a political sticker on their car, but when their chosen candidate loses, they mysteriously have the sticker of the winning candidate in place. For many others, it is simple ignorance. Especially in our current situation, they just don’t see the ramifications of not supporting the troops or strategy. They will stand behind their banner stating "I support the troops but not the war", feeling that this in some way justifies their attempts to remove funding for the very troops they supposedly support. They just don't understand the fact that most of the troops who are on the ground and really understand what is going on, want to be there. I think it is ignorance in respect to not only who we are fighting, but what we are fighting. Then there is the last element, those who believe the US deserves to lose. The scary part of that is that some of this type is present in the house as well as the senate. |

All in the military are volunteers!! Why don't you get that? I was in Iraq, I enlisted of my own free will knowing well and good what the military does. |

Those are the total cowards...They feel if they give support, they may be drafted or something....
Some are just plain stupid....too bad we don't have legislation agaisnt stupid |

Lack of knowledge, filled with media only showing the few bad things going on and nothing about the good. A few isolated incidents labels all military as bad, but take those few isolated incidents with famous people and it doesn't really matter. Go figure huh? Yeah, support actors who are just regular people who do what? "ACT". Take real soldiers (not acting) defending freedom for people to say some of the nastiest of things here in the states, but they do it and it sure isn't for the money. |

People that do not support the military are cowards. They are ignorant. They are the scum of society. They are no better than racists. Freedom of speech is their civil right, a right fought for by a MILITARY during the revolutonary war. So many military men (and women!) have lost their lives so that these non-supporting losers could keep their rights. I get so mad just thinking about people that do not support our troops. In all reality, I think that they don't like Bush and take it out on innocent soldiers, who are just doing their duty. |

Exactly what I would like to know. Yes, many of our men and women have chosen to join and go, but I think you're trying to say that they're doing what they're being ordered to do - they aren't the policy makers.
I think that all Americans should support our brothers and sisters in arms, even if they disagree with the war. They do one he** of a job, and I admire them for doing something that I couldn't. I just hope no one ever slanders our soldiers to my face... it wouldn't be pretty. |

if war=bad

Because they know nothing about it and believe everything they see in the movies.
There are people out there who actually believe that the military is some sort of blood thirsty secret society. Even scarier, these idiots live among us! |

Some people don't like the military because the military doesn't tolerate homos, cowards, and non-hackers.
The military stands for and expects much higher conduct of its personnel than you will find in most of American society (ever wonder why the military is the most trusted institution in the US according to public poll)..some people despise that because they know that they don't measure up.
And then there are those people who got their *** kicked by someone in the military and they have an axe to grind..lol |

There is a huge difference between support for the troops and the military and challenging the legitimacy of how they are utilized.
You are right, military personnel have little or no choice of where they are sent. It is the responsibility of the American people to make sure that our troops and military are used appropriately. |

I havne't heard that, I heard that people don't support the war, but do support the troops.
As for Razor11's comment about the military being worthless for this type of war, I challenge this idiot to go join any branch of the military and try to hack it in that branch, and actually try to do some of the things we do. Actually, he better not join, I wouldn't want to have to drag his dead body out of the streets of Iraq, and have to explain to his parents why he passed away due to him being so worthless. |

Why most people don't support...who knows. And a lot of them choose to be there and the others are there because they chose to be there by enlisting so in essence they all chose to be there. |

Reality Check
 |
I support our military ... I love and support our troops.
But, our troops are being mislead.
Their patriotism is being used against them.
They're being led using the duty, service, patriotism hook to fight someone else's war.
Let's get real ...
Some Muslim guy with an AK strapped to his back who lives in the middle of the desert with barely enough food to eat and mountains surrounding him really doesn't pose a threat to Americans who live thousands of miles away across the Atlantic ocean.
America does NOT belong in the Middle East in the first place. We shouldn't be poking our nose in someone else's country.
People need to stay in their own countries.
If America sealed its borders, closed down all immigration, especially immigration to muslim nations and even deported some legal immigrants then how could these terrorists possibly hit us? They couldn't!
But because the Feds are so PC, they're not willing to seal the borders, start deportations and stop legal and illegal immigration. Therefore, our finest, who truly want to make the world a better place are being sent to fight on the altar of Political Correctness.
Folks, the America that my grand-father (special forces) fought for ... the America my dad grew up in -- no longer exists! America is only a shell of its former self and is headed for balkanization. That's a fact. It's nothing more than an economic zone being flooded by sullen, demanding thirdworlders who rule their neighborhoods with knifes, guns and mob attacks. |

This is a most difficult forum question. I served three tours in Vietnam as a Marine.I saw more combat and deaths than i care to discuss. i was fortunate. Never wounded unless you count 48 days ina mental ward for post war syndorme. The last tour i gave most of my pay to a girls orpanage. I guess i was trying to ask forgiveness. I saw so much devastation. I volunteered because i believed what my goverment was tellin me about why we were in Vietnam. You can't imagine what went through my mind when i discover the truth. Each man and woman in the military has to decide for themselves wheather or not to believe the reason is justified for going to war. After studying the past and present covert actions of the CIA i question the validity of some of the reasons for our invading thrid world countries. Notice they alway go before the troops. Cause civil unrest to result in the changing of the leadership for one more in line with US policies and Interest. I don't argue Saddam was evil. however, The CIA did put him in power and our goverment supplied his army with aid and weapons to defeat Iran. If he was no longer benefical to their cause everyone knows what happened. Interesting there were meeting and cooperation between Quaddafi and the CIA in the past. I read about El Mozote massacre. Just on example resulting from CIA training and the aftermath. Every time i see a soilder i offer to pay their meal or at least a cup of coffee. I remind them i am proud of their sacifice. I worry because we have people like McCain who want war with Iran. One day we will have total control of the middle east. Their oil and their goverment leaders replaced by the one more favorable to the US interest. Right now McCain just said we need to take Qaddafi out. Interesting. Well we will have more new bases. It is very misleading to believe our votes matter as to who becomes president. The two organizations i mentioned above will decide who they want as president. Look for a major tax increase soon! The Federal Reserve lost 9 trillion dollars. Opps! Meanwhile while our ecomony is in the tank they lent 2 trillion to New Zeland to bail them out. When we bail out these Banks and organizations, who bails out out? Anybody for cutting our goverment in half? Just wondering. |
