Why are we in war with Iraq and not Afghanistan?

Ok last time I do this. Afghanistan was already taken care of and a democratically elected government now holds power there. Granted its a gov based on Islamic Law BUT theyre learning AND it was elected by the PEOPLE. We did not go into Iraq for oil...how many tankers have arrived here from Iraq? NONE. The main points the President and his admin cited were Saddam's alleged links to Al Queda which rather recently are starting to be CONFIRMED by siezed Iraqui documents as well as Saddam's refusal to cooperate with UN weapon inspectors and even going as far as covertly transporting most of its WMD programs to friendly neighbor nations. Evidence of this is also starting to come out of siezed regime documents. There is ALOT more but I only have a short space to make my main points. The rest of it IS out there, if you have the intelligence to look for it and the wisdom to see that ALL the "mainstream" press is biased...even the socalled "fair and balanced" Fox News.

Um my son is over in afganistan and you do not always hear what is happening there. From what I hear not a really nice to be right now. If you read the taliban and afgans are stealing hard drives from the puters on the base and selling it. It has alot of important government information on it. Seems to have been going on a long while and there is fighting still going on.

Don't let liberal deadheads con you. Here are the real answers to your questions:

1) we already won the war in Afghanistan. We defeated the cruel, ignorant, backward, religious extremist Taliban regime, and created a democracy for the Afghans, who can now be proud they are a legitimate democracy with guaranteed freedoms for its citizens.

2) we initially went to war with Iraq because we (and many other countries: Russia, Germany, France, England) believed that they had weapons of mass destruction: biological, chemical weapons, and were developing nukes. Saddam Hussein encouraged this belief, so don't blame the U.S. Another legitimate reason we went to war with Iraq was because the country defied 17 United Nations resolutions. The United States could not let Iraq flaunt this brazen defiance any longer, or the UN would simply become an irrelevant instituation that does nothing but talk, but never acts on its resolutions.

Iraq had previously invaded Iran and Kuwait, and was a danger to the entire region. For the safety of the Iraqis, as well as the rest of the regions, we could not let his reign of terror continue unabated. Remember, Iraq's war with Iran cost a million lives, and he killed many people in Kuwait. If he had continued with his weapons program, which he would have reconstitued eventually, he would have surely waged war on his neighbors again.

Lastly, remember this: many people have cited reports that Saddam Hussein DID have WMD's at the start of the war. He just secretly shipped them to Syria. Perhaps someday we'll learn the truth.

Oil...and the American want of control of that country. Afghanistan has done nothing "wrong" to us...and are somewhat cooperating with the American Military...Iraq however...is a totaly chaos machine. But then again..it involves politics...and of course...money.

If the answer to all our wars is so simple as so many claim, the why are we in Afghanistan? Maybe it is like a guy I worked with. I don't care why you decided to come, but thank god you arrived when you did! Later he decided it was safe enough to return to Afghanistan! Where were all the critics when the Soviets tried to take over the very same country. All the news was buried towards the back of the newspapers as I recall. Maybe you need to spit in a new direction!

In short, Bush stuck his hand in a hornet's nest. What we have thrown away in the sandbox (litterbox) over there $$$ would have paid for so many health expenses, infrastructure espenses, educational expenses, elderly expenses, you name it expenses in this country. But hey! Bushy and friends aren't rich enough so your children and mine will pay for this huge piece of crap for decades. I suggest buying gold stocks if you want to get rich yourself as the dollar devalues over the next several several several years.

We ARE at war with Afghanistan. We currently have soldiers stationed over there (Brits have their SAS soldiers there as well, in case you're wondering) in several different camps. My boyfriend just got back from an 8-month deployment, stationed near Kandahar. Get your facts straight. Yes, the media pays more attention to Iraq but that doesn't mean that's the only place our troops are stationed!

We are not at war with Iraq. We are at war with terrorism and the insergants in Iraq which are also made up of many who are not from Iraq. The same goes for Afghanastan.
