Why are women not allowed on the front line?
Find answers to your legal question.

Why are women not allowed on the front line?

What are the reasons? Surely they are trained in the same way as the men?
Additional Details
I mean fight on the frontline, not just be there doing something else.

We can be as equal and as PC as we want but there is one overriding factor, women't physical capabilities.
Yes there are women who can outrun and out lift a man but these are not the average.
If women want to be completely equal then pass the same fitness tests as men, to the same standard, then you'll be able to fight in the front line.

edit:
To serve in the Infatry you have to be capable of doing the job, otherwise you wouldn't be there, so yes, the men in the Infantry are strong and capable, otherwise they would be letting their comrades down and would be a liability.

You could ask the same question but phrase it "Why don't women compete against men in the Olympics?"

The Army recognises the physical differences between men and women, thats why they have a different fitness standard, just because women can pass the lower standard doesn't mean they are as strong, fit or as good as a man in the same job

They are not physically suited. The front lines in combat are not some PC excercise.

because we found out that we don't like to see our women rape and tortured which is what really happens in war, not this stuff some folks think should happen

Women do not belong on the front lines at least not in this day and age. This is for good reason. It puts more people and lives in danger.

Despite what you might think, there is MORE to combat than pulling a trigger. The day you can drag a 200lb lifeless Marine 400 or more yards, survive conditions such as Tarawa, Guadalcanal, Fallujah or Iwo gima (bet you don't even know where/what those are), or hump with a 150lb pack for 20/more miles......you MIGHT be fit for combat, excluding other standards. O and you are a target for rape when taken as a POW, men aren't. You going to hold off 50 enemy soldiers from raping you (IE: Jessica Lynch)? Probably not.

Combat MOS have standards; standards that the males sometimes don't pass. Why should we lower those standards to make feminist feel equal? The military has an objective to fulfill, and that is not make women feel "equal". Our objective is the mission.

I have to agree with AL G on this somewhat thorny issue. The average woman is not up to the physical rigours of life on the front line fighting as an infantry soldier. There are some women out there who can and do beat men in a physical contest, but these are few and far between.

The only argument that I have to support my case is in results from the Olympic Games, in particular on the Athletics Field. Looking at the results there are only three events that women equal their male counterparts, the Pole Vault, Shot Put and Discus (the female competitor beat her male counterpart by nearly 3 mtrs). I use the Games because all the competitors devote a vast amount of time and energy in attaining their goal to represent their country.

I have to touch on the subject of a woman's physiology - there are a lot of women out there that suffer at that particular time of the month from severe stomach cramps/pain (personal family experience) which would literally render them as ineffective at this time which would reduce the combat effectiveness of a unit. As for a woman being in a tank crew or as members of an infantry section in the back of a Warrior under CBRN conditions.....................!

it has been tried out in Israel and failed plus its easy for men to see a man being hurt oe tortured than a women

This is to Dingle Dongle (the question poster).....your argument to use medication to end periods is false. It is against military regulations to have someone in a combat MOS (or any other field for that) that requires constant medication or excess medication to maintain a stable physical state. They are denied entry into the military or discharged. So your argument to use medication to end menstrual cycles is false. You apparently do not know the workings/standards of the military.

I am not going to re post the ideas of why women should not be in combat. Everyone else who is apparently in the military has answered correctly. I am tired of civilians with no military experience answering these questions like they know it all (such as lil bowser).

Vic the bulgar
Why should we lower standards that the Infantry and other combat MOS have to let women in? If men can not meet those standards, they are out. It would jeopardize the success of the mission. The military is not here to be PC and cater to you feminist beliefs. I am going to go with NoObama, he made some good points.

Because women are nowhere near as physically strong as men.End of.

That's the same reason you don't see women as professional footballers or rugby players, F1 drivers etc.

There maybe some things women are better at than men.

But Pysical strength isn't one of them.

I think its something to do with a man is more likely to do something stupid to protect a woman than a man

we tend to be more sympathetic than men and that can interfere with our duties to protect our country. it may seem small but it can be a deciding factor in wining a war or losing one.

It is a political stance, because many people believe that women should not be in services at all and so as to be "reasonable" many rates/musters/categories are not available to women to choose.
Sometimes these are because women are known to be more at risk in certain rolls (like females on board Aus Navy ships do not clean fuel tanks because of the possibility of birth defect causing side effects the fuel is believed to cause). But a lot of it, like not employing women tank drivers is purely for political reasons (they drive trucks and tanks that follow, repair and service the battle tanks but not the tanks themselves just because someone in politics somewhere decided it wouldn't look good having a female combatant).

It is really a pity actually. If I were a woman, I would feel less of a citizen if I knew I could pay taxes, vote and represent my country in every way but not legally defend it by putting my body on the line.

since the beginning of human kind women has been preserved, for one reason, and a very important one, we can reproduce, we have the ability to increase our numbers, our people. The problem with that was the misconception that women are fragile and not able to lead. we can do everything that men can do in a intellectual matter. the reason women are and should be preserved in direct combat is that simple old reason.
