BAGHDAD – The U.S. death toll for April rose to 18, the military said Friday, making it the deadliest in seven months for American forces in Iraq. The sharp increase from the previous month came as a series of bombings also pushed Iraqi deaths to their highest level this year. The Iraqi Government reports their American supported Government is starting to fall apart. The Iraqi people are unsure what is going to happen.

Well... first of all, the spring means the coming out season of insurgent groups in both Iraq and Afghanistan. They tend to focus their efforts in the summer season.
Honestly, it is hard to understand why it'd be happening now, with US plans to withdraw. You'd think enemies of the gov't would bide their time until America has left. They aren't Al Qaeda, the strategy makes too little sense.
I think they're home grown Sunni groups out from their hibernation who think Shia will rule before and after America's departure. So they bomb irregardless of America's timetable for withdrawal. Just a taste of what to expect when America leaves. |

Rebels in Iraq are under the impression that the United States is packing up and shipping out. They'll see it as a victory if we leave before the job is finished. Vietnam, Somalia...it's happened before. Leaving now is making a mockery of the entire operation and wasting every death. |
