Why can't I go over to Iraq to fight? At 43 I can still run and shoot.?

Hell, I'm 46 and would go back in the military in a heartbeat. We can still run and shoot and duck. Heck, I'm from west virginia and we love to hunt and shoot. No bag limit on terrorists. More power to u.

I went to "Desert Storm" at 46. I went to Iraq again at 57, so why can't you go at 43? I'll tell you why. When I was released from the active components I thought about my service a lot, for about 7 years to be exact. I was bored with my job of many years, and wondered what the military reserves could do for a former solder pushing 34 yrs of age. I found out. I enlisted again and stayed until they kicked me out at age 60, one month after returning from Iraq on my second tour. Not counting my year in Viet-Nam and the Domician Republic, I served over 30+ years. But you would have had to enlist before your 35th birthday for former servicemen. And, I do agree that a male in good physical condition can fight for his country at age 43. My father served in the US Navy until he was 51, completing over 30 years. My brother served in the Marines over 22 years. But, guy you missed the boat at 35. If you have more than 8 years total service, that is subtracted from your present age, which would place you at almost 35 now, so hurry up to the recruiters and see if you can enlist. You must pass a doctors physical. Good luck if your serious.

Amen Brother! I think we are more stable thus less likely to mess up, like drive off the road into a mine etc. Uncle Sam just won't have us, I guess it's because of health reasons. Younger folks tend to get sick less, so I was told. They have more endurance...BS!
I have 2 boys and 4 nephews and can keep going long after they give up!

you can run and shoot but can you duck lol.!!! 43 is not old for the arm but if you wernt in the army before then they won,t train you because of the age unless they have a big big war that they need older poeple they will just chose the younger ones over someone thats 43 hope that helps your answer.

It is not exactly age discrimination, but due to health issues as we all grow older you would be considered more of a liability than an asset

the united states government has an age limit on enlistment. this is so because it is easier to rebuild younger soldiers, both physically and mentally. Also, The movies starring harrison ford, such as clear and present danger, patriot games, and executive orders, are fictitious, based on the books by Tom Clancy. in the books, it states that ryan is a FORMER us marine. he is not part of the marines, anymore.
furthermore, the united states does not enlist older people because they are at an increased chance rate for many diseases, which they do not want to spend money on only to become disabled and useless.

Did you contact a recruiter and try to get a waiver? Do you have specific skills the military can use? My brother-in-law's National Gaurd unit left for Iraq last year and I expected to see buff, trim, 20 year olds but I was surprised to see about half were 30-40 year old guys with beer guts.

For starters you probably have a family at home to take care of and you are at the age where you have to start worrying about heart attacks and being in iraq isn't exactly going to help that. There have been quite a few "older people" having them over there and i'm sure your wife doesn't need the added stress either.

It is not that you can't run, jump, and kill. It is what your mos is. Thats if they need you to stay where you are is more helpful for the U.S then you going and killing. Plus if you have had any MED. problems they will not sent you.
