Why can't we just nuke iran, north korea, and syria?

Firstly, nuking these countries means the U.S. assumes that North Korea plans to use its nukes on the U.S. (It has yet to be proven that Iran has nuclear weapons, and Syria doesn't even have a nulcear power program). One must remember that the Indians were supposedly going to attack the U.S., so the U.S. attacked first, killing hundreds of men, women, and children at Wounded Knee (and it later turned out that the Indians never were planning to attack).
You claim that "A preventative strike. it would save thousands of american lives...", but what makes an American life more important the life of a Korean, or an Iranian? Granted these countries don't play ball with the U.S., but that can hardly be deemed a suitable cause for a war.
In short, these countries cannot be nuked unless clear and irefutable evidence is produced.

Really a dumb idea. All nuclear nations know that you can't really use nukes except for defense. The first nation that uses nukes will become the global villain, all the other nations will gang up on him. That's why nobody's used them since WWII. No leader of a nuclear nation can envision a scenario whereby he has anything to gain by using nukes. Just -having- nukes protect them from . . . well, from us, for one thing.

This is why every nuclear nation (except the US of course) has signed a no-first-use agreement.

That's not to say that some ragtag terrorist outfit might not use them if they could get them. But even there, we could tell in a minute what country the nukes came from by the signature of the radiation. And who's ever nukes they were would have a lot of 'splainin' to do. Which is probably why terrorists haven't gotten their mitts on them either.

wow, maybe cause itd kill thousands upon thousands of innocent lives? i think we should all remember that american lives are not superior to anyone elses, and that we should not treat anyone like they're worthless! and there is no way of completely knowing for sure about there nuclear weapons, it is not "obvious"! why should we kill all those innocent civilians who are not involved in building nuclear weapons at all? we have nuclear weapons, so does that give other countries the right to come bomb us? how about you think about how ignorant youre being before you post something so ridiculous!!

Read "Nuclear Weapons and Foreign Policy" by Kissinger

You'll understand that nukes are not supposed to be used for their actual explosive force because of the civilian casualties and effects on the environment.

Instead you are supposed to threaten nuclear war and only use them if it is the absolute last step. America has lost its backbone in lots of ways.

Back in the day if a country drove boats at one of our ships we would have retaliated, instead today we just slap Iran on the wrist.

Because of the blunder of Iraq and the subsequent approval ratings we can't protect ourselves from true threats. Or at least we can't reason it to the American people.

The problem with using nukes is that we aren't the only country that has them and not all the countries that have them side with us.

Because the radiation from a nuclear strike powerful enough to destroy those countries' ability to respond would also irradiate much of the world. Radiation would blow all over the globe, causing cancer, destroying farmland, and creating massive devastation.

A nuclear attack would also take a massive toll on the civilian populations of those countries, far out of proportion with the value of the military targets involved. This is a war crime, and such an attack would make the attackers murderers on a massive scale.

Do you really have any idea of what these sorts of weapons will do, let alone the enternal hate that Americans would earn if this were to happen? The condemnation would be swift from allies and non-aligned countries. China and Russia are nuclear armed as well, and would not sit idly by.

Americans in other countries would be attacked in the street because of the actions of their military and government: you cop it enough now as it is! the president who permits that strike would go down in history, keeping company with Hitler and others like him. The American people would be vilified for allowing it to happen.

A nuclear preventative strike would be indefensible, both in terms of international opinion, and in terms of the consequences the US would suffer. World economies would collapse, at least temporarily, and the US would be left as a smoking, isolated ruin once the arsenals of China and Russia are unleashed. Trust me, if they survived, any number of your politicians and military leaders would be put on trial for war crimes, and former allies would spit in their faces and the faces of every American soldier.

Well, this may be the most fanatic view I have ever heard, yet Iâ€™ll try to make it simple; when you say â€œobviouslyâ€ they are building nuclear weapons: Sorry they are not, we donâ€™t know it any better than what we knew about the Iraqi WMD!
Even if they are building any nuclear anything, that does not have to be our problem unless we want to make it our problem, there is always a way to avoid all of this if we stopped the fanatic patriotism on both sides.
We are supporting the only country in the M.east that has Nuclear weapons, and thatâ€™s actually what may stimulate a race in the M.east to get more arms than peace.
So we can actually avoid killing anyone on both sides by using different policies, no need even for on single troop to put n his uniform

They don't really pose a threat to us. They just want to be respected. If they try launching something against us or one of our allies, they will revert back to the stone age within hours. If we launch a preemptive strike against them, their allies and the UN will be super pissed at us, and might launch against us as well. There is no clear evil presence in the world today.

using nuclear weapons would result in the end of the world. if the US began using nukes it would start a chain reaction with other countries using nukes. there would be no benefit what so ever to use a nuke. there are other ways of neutralizing north korea and iran if the united states had to.

Its not like they bomb and o look start fresh..it becomes a toxic waste and takes time and i mean TIME for anything to survive there anymore. Don't underestimate the United States Military. They would destroy 99% of Iran in less than a week. It's the remaining 1% that takes so long to clean up... Just like in Iraq...

When GHWB invaded Iraq years ago, their army was the fourth largest in the world. Only behind the US, USSR and China. We took them out very quickly... So quickly that we were overwhelmed with soliders surrendering to us without a fight.

I suppose you are young, and did not live through the Cold War. The use of nuclear weapons is one of the most terrifying threats to humanity that exists. I am a right wing, hard core conservative Hawk. I remember Vietnam. However, I also know that once any nuclear power pulls the trigger, there is nothing to stop the others from doing so. It has been our tenuous restraint that has prevented nuclear holocaust in the fifty or so years since nations other than us developed nuclear weapons. We also have a very defeatist mindset. During WWII (my Dad's war) we fought a global war against two highly sophisticated and well equipped enemies. And we won. It was UNLIMITED war. It was fighting to win. In Vietnam, 'Rules of Engagement' political boundaries and political interference in military affairs caused us to fight a LIMITED war, which we lost. It is not possible to fight a LIMITED war and win. There is no kinder, gentler war. War is hell! It is brutality that I'm sure you can't imagine. However, if you throw away the ROE, and leave the politicians at home, the American GI can beat anyone, anytime. So, we don't need to destroy the world with nukes. Study history (I wish all of our politicians had to study History before running for office). Unless you learn from history, you will be doomed to repeat it.

Nuking Iran would waste a lot of good oil underneath. Syria and North Korea? We should probably go forward and get it over with. Drop some pamphlets first telling women and kids to get out of there. As for Iran, yeah, drop some pamphlets telling them to get women, kids, and oil out first. Then try some limited bombing to make them understand, and try to preserve the oil. If it doesn't work out, just drop the full load and forget about it. Their oil isn't worth all the headaches, and watching that little bearded Iranian guy get on TV talking mess about everything.

Iran already said that is what they are in the procsess of doing. If Iran strikes with nuclear weapons and analates us, is that better?
