Why did America back down from invading Iran?

I think your confused. George Bush pulled his macho BS routine and talked tough, but there was never any plan to invade Iran and no troops were deployed in preparations for such plans.

If Iran gets a nuclear weapon and try to use it the entire Iranian nation will be wiped off the face of the earth - and they know that. The chance that Iran would attack Isreal with nuclear weapons is almost nil. Iran's reasons for wanting nuclear weapons are far more subtle than the reactionary view that they just want to blow up Israel.

because word got out that iran didnt acualy want to bomb isreal it was a miss translation and thus all the sensible people wouldnt have bout it and no war could be fought

Don't count on that. If he nukes Israel Iran will be next. He's a loud mouth ,but he isn't a complete idiot.

Bush's original plan was to plow through Iraq in a month or six weeks, then next would be Syria, and finally Iran. He got stuck in Iraq and the rest never happened.

Iran is several times bigger than Iraq, and we don't have enough manpower even to stabilize Iraq. After Iraq went bad, Bush no longer planned on invading and occupying Iran, but we could always bomb them. So he started building up their nuclear capabilities, and rattling the saber.

But Iran is very well defended. They have no offensive capability but they bristle with defense weapons. They have supersonic cruise missiles that could possibly sink an American aircraft carrier. At the very least they could sink a couple of supertankers in the Straits of Hormuz, cutting off the entire Middle East supply of oil.

There is no real evidence that Iran is anywhere near building nuclear weapons. They say they want to develop nuclear power plants. They are willing to put up with international monitoring, as ALL nuclear power nations do.

Plus we've never actually tried diplomacy with them, and I think we ought to at least try that first, no?

The US did not al most go to war with Iran a couple years ago.

That was an invention of the liberal left, trying to defeat Bush in 2004.

They lied and said if Bush was elected, we would invade Iran.

Just as they lied and said if Bush was elected, we would have a draft.

They were never going to Invade Iran... And if Iran get the bomb they wont use it as anything more than a bargaining tool... Just like the rest of the World.
