Why did Obama release classified memos about how we deal with enemy combatants?

I, have heard of three answers on the news.
One- STUPIDITY
Two--- Will only put American security in jeopardy, stupidity.
Three-- For what ever reason, wants to continue to throw stones at the Bush administration without justification. Just because,kind of like a kid getting even with his smarter mature big brother. Stupidity.

Because he's a moron. You don't reveal your company's secrets to the competition. If he had ever held one real job in his entire life, he would have learned this.

This is what happens when you hire someone based on their skin color and not their abilities. (That's racism, just for the record.)

By telling our enemies what to expect and where we will draw the line, he has completely destroyed our ability to gain any intelligence.

It was not classified information. It was already known and published information. The objective was to say to the world at large that although some tactics may have been authorized by the previous administration, they were no longer authorized under the current one.

You seem to think this information had not been previously published... you are wrong on that score. These policies have been debated for years. Not exactly a matter of state secrets.

He wants to end the air of secrecy that surrounds our practices and is used as a propaganda tool by our enemies and even former friends. By airing the dirty laundry he hopes to make the point that this is the stuff of the former administration and the current US administration does not do these things. There's bound to be short-term problems associated, but Obama is taking the gamble that in the medium-term and long-term it will be beneficial, rather than having the rumors and stories persist perpetually.

There is no such thing as an "enemy combatant."

The treatment those prisoners received was illegal, and information about that treatment is entitled to no legal protection. We shouldn't be torturing people anyway.
