It was World War 2, fyi, and the US did it because an invasion would have likely cost over a million lives.

In the long run for the scheme of events -

the dropping of the "bomb" helped saved countless tens of thousands of lives, for both sides.

And, you should be thinking of World War 2, not World War 1.
