Because we have OIL companies there and if you noticed, Samalia went to war but we were not involved because they don't have anything of value there, this world is all about money. |

We went to war in Iraq to topple a dictator that was amassing weapons of mass destruction, weapons he's used on his own people. Because they did not find "Nuclear" weapons, doesn't mean there where no weapons of mass destruction! I don't know what all these people consider over 200,000 gallons of poison gas, if it's not weapons of mass destruction. They've also uncovered mass graves, with tens of thousands of bodies!
The media has made such a big deal out of Haliburton and their "link" to VP Cheney, but hardly a whisper about the Oil for food scandal, in which the same four entities who opposed the US going in to Iraq in the first place, where found to be involved; Russia, Germany, France, and the UN! In spite of the fact that this scandal was literally ten times the cost of the Haliburton "Scandal"!
If we went to war for oil, then why are all the prices going up? The reason is; we didn't go to war for oil, otherwise we would have taken Iraqs oil, and be enjoying .50 cent a gallon prices for the past few years... so there goes that threory.
Think about this; If democracy prevails in Iraq, it'll only spread outward, Iran, Syria and more. To pull out now, as many armchair generals conveniently say we should, will not only mean every American & Iraqi life lost was in vain, but it means instability in the region, and ultimately failure in Afghanistan as well. There's a lot more at steak, and a lot more to think about than what many people say here, or on the news... and it would require more time & space than is available here.
I do believe if we leave Iraq now, there'll be civil war, and the terrorists will win! That will lead to a stregthened terrorist state, and stronger extremist muslim control throughout the middle east, Africa, and the world. I totally respect our president for 1. being human, and not being the "perfect" speaker, we all make mistakes! 2. for sticking to his word, regardless of popular opinion, like the Hillary Clintons, and John Kerry's of the U.S. political world.
We need to be united, we need to not fall apart like our enemies want us to do. We need to stop being pampered and spoiled, and we need to stop being naive about the world around us! If you get Encore, there's a Nat. Geographic documentary on this month, about an Iraqi who's been in NYC since 1993, when he fled pursecution from Saddam. His family had been in hiding, fearing death squads, becuase this man fought against Saddam. The man seeing all the terrible news on TV about Iraq, decided to go over and see if he could find his family, any part of them, alive... When he got there, he couldn't believe how different it was, from the news reports! One family member had died... his father; he died of old age! There was another report on an old woman, brutally beaten by US soldiers... only to find that she was hiding behind a locked door, she refused to open for US troops, when they kicked the door open, she was behind it, trying to hold it shut! The soldiers then treated her, medically. After searching the house & village, they left... Mortar attacks on a US base where coming from that village... since the raid, there were no more attacks. You see? don't believe one side of the story you hear on TV, why some people are trying to tear this country apart is beyond me, but it ought to be illegal in times of war!
"The global war on terror", the president said in 2001, "will not be finished when I leave office, it may not be finished in my lifetime, we have to be resolute, and steadfast in our commitment to stay this fight to the end, we will not waiver, we will not falter, and we will not fail!" (as close as I can remember it to being). That just about sums it up. I wasn't prepared to write a thesis on the war in Iraq, but here's a tiny bit, just off the top of my head, at 1am in the morning (God, I should be sleeping!). |

Dont listen to liberals. If we went there for oil, why is oil prices so high still? thank you, case and point. Now we went so that we could help their people, correct an error when we put sadam in power, gain an allie, and have good standings for what ever war might come next. Libs dont look at the big picture. We now have a valuble allie that is bording a threatening country. That helps. they are a bunch of free people who arent going to hurt us now, that helps. Dont listen to retards.
Alaska has more oil that any where on the planet. |

Bush gave plenty of speeches in 2002 and 2003 outlining US grievances towards Iraq. Mainly, US was afraid Saddam would come up with a WMD battle plan that would be indefensible. Bush considered the UN slacking off on the Iraq problem and decided to take on Iraq with a few allies.
The ref'd speech is typical of the reason US forces went to Iraq, but not why they stayed. That's a different war and not part of your question. |

There were 22 reasons given in the use of force authorization that congress passed for reengaging Iraq. We had an armacist with Saddam, but he continually failed to follow its terms and made numerous threats against us and our allies. He fired on our pilots patroling the no fly zones that were established after we kicked him out of Kuwait (which he had invaded). The WMD's were the only thing we didnt find. There were definite signs that they had been there, but as my brother said, "We found fighter jets that had been buried out in the desert, I wouldnt be suprised if one day we dont find the WMD's buried or moved to a different country." But they were only one of 22 reasons cited by congress for entering Iraq. A lot of people blame the whole thing on Bush, thats garbage. The use of force authorization was passed by congress, and those same congressmen spend a lot of time emphasizing how it is Bush's fault so that people will forget how they voted. Just because a conflict is not popular, doesnt mean it isnt necessary for the security or our nation and the rest of the world. I dont like this conflict, I recently lost my brother in it, but I do believe it is necessary and must be won. |

The US already lost its foothold in Saudi Arabia and it's popularity wanes after the first gulf war. denial of use from it's air bases during desert fox shows that it's time meet it's end at Saudi. Saudi Arabia is a strategic place, in terms of military and economic presence. iraq is the next best reason for the US to stay in the middle east region due to the volatile relations israel has on it's neighbors. iran is defensive, syria is far north from the oil fields. so US will hold iraq only for the interests of both military and economy. |

Various reasons. One of the reasons is that Saddam Hussein had re-denominated Iraq's oil from the dollar to the euro. George W. Bush's advisers may have been afraid that this could be the beggining of a trend that other nations would follow. This would be disastrous for the United States' economy, since it would devalue the dollar and practically make it meaningless in the world economy. With the invasion of Iraq, the United States stopped the trend of re-denominating oil to the euro before it started.
Another reason is that the oil industry in Iraq was in the hands of the government. The United States wanted to privatize the Iraqi oil industry, so it would be able to somewhat control the price of oil, and bring huge profits to American oil companies.
And then there is Halliburton. Halliburton has a huge influence in the George W. Bush administration, and by having the United States invade Iraq, Halliburton would make huge amounts of profits, which it did.
We have to also remeber that the George W. Bush administration is full of stupidity. George W. Bush had no clue how the war would be resolved, and he perfectly knew that there were no WMD's in Iraq, but used faulty intelligence to brainwash the public into accepting this dissasterous war. |

because americans r 5% of world population . but r consuming 25% of earth's resources. so just to maintain this we go to war. otherwise their is no democracy in saudi arabia , quwait or bahrain either. 15 out of 18 9-11 highjackers were also saudi's. so either u r so foolish or selfish. |

To free the people from an oppressive regime? No.
To control the oil supplies which Iraq was denying the US? Yes.
I hope that's simple enough! |

The U.S. also had various reasons entering the war concering Iran. One of the main reasons we have not left Iraq in my opinion is bescause of the weak state it is in now. Divided by a civil war opens up a door for easy invasion of Iraq by other Middle Eastern countries such as Iran. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad (Iran's President) is not right in the head, stating in the 64th Assembly of the UN that the Holocaust did not happen and that Israel would burn to the ground, would be more than happen to gain more power without our interference. This also would give more power to extremists that want to kill us. There is no negotiating with these people. We need to stay where we are and help diminish the threat and power that terrorists have. |

bush sucks
|
are you guys logical? obviously bush had to cover up the true facts of why he went to war. he claimed for destruction of nuclear weapons but wait there was NONE there. hmm? and why are we still there? lets see in 50 years how low the gas prices will be? if he lowered the prices now and revealed the true reasons the whole world would be chaotic. there is so much going on behind the scenes in government that none of us have any idea about. maybe one day it will be uncovered but most likely not in our life times. |
