Why didn't George Bush volunteer for Vietnam? Afraid -did not belive in the War? or other reasons>?

George Bush was a pilot for the Texas Air national Guard serving his state and country, his unit was subject to call up at anytime just as Guard units are now. It just wan't called up, so get off the B.S. He SERVED, which is something most left wingers on here have not in any capacity!

I am in the army now and still haven't been to Iraq. I just kinda go were they tell me, that is how it works.

Bush Joined the National Guard and did not volunteerly ask for duty in vietnam. Humdreds of thousands of other enlistes also did not serve in Vietnam.
As a nation guardmans he would have had to goif his unit was called up, but during those days rarely diod the national Guard get called into service as we had the draft and did not need them.
Bush was into enough money military service in vietnam was not required as long as he did his tour in the guard.
He was one of the millions in this country who did not go. Everyone who wishes to can check their own family history to see who served in vietnam . Of the areat and time for every realtive who serve you will find several to many who did not in you own family no matter who you are.
My wifes aunt had 4 sones there at once. She lost one son to vietnam. My wifes other aunt had 3 sons in the mililay at the same time who never went beyond the states. I had an older cousion who served 2 years in the military but he himself never left the States.
It wasn't jus tbush who never went to nam. check your family history. being presidnet now had nothing to do with what he did, or didn't do during vietnam

thejokker
did you or your parents volunteer for Vietnam? why?

Afraid?
Did not believe in the war?
other reasons?

It probably had to do with the fact that the aircraft he was trained to fly was not used in Vietnam.

If memory serves, George W was in the Texas Air National Guard and flew F105 Thunderchiefs. The Thunderchief was an evil-tempered machine and a lot more guys were killed just flying them in the US than got killed in Vietnam. You were really taking a chance with your life every time you strapped yourself into one of these things. They were a real hotrod but pretty dangerous. A flying bomb, really. Don't know why W didn't go to 'Nam. It wasn't his old man that held him back because George Sr. was a WWII carrier pilot and was shot down. In his younger days W was a real hothead, with a quick temper. Quick with his fists and didn't back down from a fight. So he definitely had the nads to be a combat pilot. Bill Clinton didn't even serve in the military, but that's easily explained. He was raised by women his whole life and was a physical coward. So he can be excused. If I had to guess, it was probably that W got bored with the whole military thing. The reason he got out was to go work in a political campaign. More of a challenge, I suppose.

He did. At the time, he was a rated pilot in the F-102 Delta Dagger aircraft. In order to go to Viet Nam, he would have had to transition to the F-4 Phantom. The time spent to transition would not allow him to spend a complete tour in Viet Nam prior to the end of his term of service. He was not selected.

He said "War is bad, mmmmkay?"

No, its because he was in the National Guard, which was not a branch of the military that went to Vietnam

my_iq_135
He was scared that is why his daddy (then CIA Director) got him into the Guard in Texas. Back when Presidents respected the clause in the constitution about states militias serving in foreign wars.

He didn't have the guts to serve in Vietnam and he was too drunk and high on cocaine to anyways.

Because he wasn't a career soldier, like you. I find it fascinating that you chose to make the military a career because either you were good at it or you liked it or both and yet you think that unless people have served in the military and gone to war, their contributions are meaningless. Nobody forced you to stay; you chose to. Only psychopaths aren't afraid of war and actually look forward to it.

Who in their right mind would "volunteer" to go into war?
Serving in the military, whichever branch, should be enough. It's more than many other presidents who started wars did.

Because MONEY talks - and having friends in right places helped get you out of having to go... Saying he served is a joke - he served alright - from the Officer's club maybe ....

George has a face that you just want to smack....
"Bush - Like a rock only dumber"

How about - he was a first-class coward? Or maybe he was afraid they would start using nuke-you-lar weapons and he wouldn't live to become the decider. It was common practice during the VietNam era for the rich to hide out in the National Guard or Air Guard like he did although it wasn't common practice for them to go AWOL, something he was good at doing. But, some people who had money weren't afraid to go risk their lives, people such as John Kerry. But, what it comes down to is that Bush was a first-class coward. And he still is.

O yea, he was in the National Guard, of course the person answering failed to state that the unit was full of big shots kids and had never been called up and was not going to be called up.

Oh no, neo-cons love war, they just don't do the heavy lifting, their job is to tell us how bad we need it and how cheep it will be or how good it is for the economy. But little w. was given the air national guard position to show affluence, besides that the Bush family was secretly punished by congress for Prescott's war crimes during WW2, so all first born males must serve some form of military duty.
