One reason why: Propaganda. You as an observer are supposed to be amazed at the accuracy, the precision, the flashiness. They spent countless hours rehearsing these difficult marches. Yes the march is hard on their legs, but the military is in shape, young, strong, and will get the job done. The nation will win wars!!! Don't mess with us!!! This is all an effort to make you fear.
The goal: Other nations will watch in awe and fear at their order, organization, and military might. As a citizen you will not protest the military might of the nation's government, or you will be crushed in this well oiled machine. |

china's 3 million man army is interesting to watch when they do their marching...just cause there are more members in that army than a normal person can fathom. god forbid we ever go up against them...have you seen their nuclear subs...wow! they are truly the military superpower of the world. |

When I was working with the Iranian Special Forces.....they admitted the goose step style of marching was a "killer".....your legs hurt for days after a parade
