Why do military wives do this?

ok well i asked a simple question to military wives of why do they try to wear there husband's rank and walk around like they have a stick up there *** i got some good answers and some wife got mad because she couldn't handle the truth which proved me right so lets try it again

why do military wives think there better then civilian wives and women and who ever comes back with the crap the hardest job in the military is being a wife to a solider well your full of it get over yourself the hardest job is being in the military getting shot at and blown up not being a wife so shut up

so whats your opinion about military wives
Additional Details
yes i do but thats not what i'm talking about now i know what i'm talking i'm retired army officers wives are even worse then enlisted wives

HA HA, yeah its a good stereotype but I've definitely seen it quite a bit and can't stand it either. I haven't seen it much in the lower enlisted ranks but more so in the senior enlisted and ANY officer rank. I just feel like telling them to shove it but don't want to disrespect their spouse. Don't get me wrong I def think that being a military wife is a difficult position but don't understand how they think its okay to ride off their SPOUSES accomplishments

I am active duty army, but my husband is now a civilian (separated from the Navy a little bit ago) and he did attend a few FRG meetings but felt awkward about how uppity some of the wives were.

What really grinds my gears is when military wives think they know any understand so much about the military even though they mostly only have second hand knowledge. Best example I can think of was awhile ago when I was NCOIC of a firing detail and a PVT tried telling me I was incorrectly instructing Soldiers the proper way to be at present arms (with a weapon) and port arms. I had printed it out earlier that day from FM 3-21.5 to be sure we were all IAW regs so I let her babble on. Her husband used to be in the Old Guard so she said she had seen it done so many times and this was not the right way. Even though I had printed it out, I made her go research the reg for it and print it out. Some people never learn. I also hate when senior NCO's wives and officers wives look at Soldiers like they are 'the help.'

HAHAHA! Those 'silent ranks' stickers and stuff make me laugh. I am a military wife (but I'm going to basic in April myself) :-). My husbands booster club had a stand at the air show last year, and I was helping out b/c they were really undermanned. Well some chick came across YELLING that she couldn't park in the DV (distinguished visitor) parking, because "she's military, and this is a military base...those people were long haired hippies parking over there". Her husband is an E-2. HA! My husband went up to her. "what war did you fight in? Because that long haired hippie is a retired Brigadier (spelling?) General..." She was so snobby about it. I love it, it makes me laugh.

I don't have to wear my husband's rank because I have my own. I avoid the FRG like the plague.

BatGirl
Not ALL military wives are like that although I must admit MOST are. Every time I see one of those stupid "Marine Wife, toughest job in the Corps" stickers on a car I cringe. If those women want to brag about having "the toughest job in the Corps" they should get their @sses off the couch and enlist, then they can find out what the toughest job in the Corps is!

that type of military wives pisses me off, but like others have said it is not all military wives that act this way

but military wives should always remember that just because their husband is a Marine/soldier/airman/sailor that in no way makes them one too

My opinion is this.

You are taking a few people who believe this way and throwing all the wives together. Not to fair is it.

And who are you to say what the hardest job in the military is or is not?

mexi_fry_1
This is JUST MY OPINION....
I think its more Army wives than ALL military wives.
They seem to think they are 'entitled" to everything!
I worked as a DOD civilian employee and dealt with them EVERYDAY!
They tend to have the worst attitudes! They also seem to only know
that their husband is in the Army but nothing else. They dont ever seem to know their jobs, 1/2 the time they dont know his unit and what gets me is when wives dont even know their husbands rank. BUT they sure know how to swipe that debit card!
Dont believe me, look at army wives myspace pages....they are ALL ABOUT being an army wife :) as though that is their title in life!
I personally dont think I am better than any civilian wife out there. If anything I know that I have it easier than them and they work MUCH harder than me. A lot more is handed to me just because my husband is in the military and set up on an easier system IE, health care, housing, moving etc.
I could go on and on but what the point....its not going to change anything!

I agree, 90 percent of military wives are complete morons.

The rest have lives.

I don't take crap from higher ranking NCOs wives...and they know it..and they don't like it, but there isn't anything they can do about it except run off to their husbands and try and get my husband in trouble. Which is pathetic, and doesn't work out for them so well in the end.

I was a military wife and never seen this, BUT what I did see was the wives of the officers, can't even get into all of it. They are among some of the nastiest, smuggest, rudest, most arrogant do nothings I have ever come across in all facets of life. They actually think they are like Jackie O. There are a select few that I found to be grounded and sane, I will defend them in this case.

while generalizations like this one have some basis in fact, not ALL army wives are like this. It's obvious you've met quite a few that are that way though, and that's a shame! Yes, our soldiers are the ones who are getting shot at, and yes their jobs are dangerous, but that is why we are so proud of them!!! Being an army wife is tough though, you have to say goodbye to your husband often and deal with whatever life throws at you without falling apart in front of your kids. It means jumping nervously at every phone call or knock at the door. It means praying that your husband doesn't die, and wondering how you would explain it to your kids if he did. It means taking on the roles of both mother and father without whining about it. It means lonely days, lonlier nights, tears cried in the dark where no one can see. It means being faithful to your soldier even if no one would ever know. It means loving a man who can't always be there when you need to fall apart. It means missed birthdays, anniversaries, holidays. It means dealing with disappointments, anger, frustration, and despair. But most of all, it means having your heart break each and every time he leaves, and being stuck with trying to pick up the pieces of your broken life. So yes, it is hard, and yes we do have a tough life, but we are the ones who keep the home fires burning so that our soldiers can lay down their weapons, and their burdens, and drive on.
I have met some wives that wear their husband's rank, so I understand where you're coming from, however-saying that all army wives wear their husband's rank is like saying that all pilots die in plane crashes, or all rottweilers bite unprovoked. It is simply a fallacy, and it saddens me that you were so upset at the point you wrote this that you made that generalization.
p.s. can you tell my husband's rank??? J/K.... Lol....

Some are a pain in the butt, some worthless, some great. No different than civilian life where the spouse of a business person takes on their position.

In the military it's a bit more pronounced because it is a fairly insular group. Trust me this was a MUCH bigger issue 30 and more years ago. Many spouses simply want to do their thing.

BTW- It's a tough job, make no doubt about it. Especially now with repeated deployments.

Maybe you are pissed off that you can't get a girl to be "your" military wife?! Grow up and move on!!!

imichelle.nicole
I don't think that military wives feel that they wear their husband's rank. The reason they may be cranky is that they are always in a state of worry and they do have to raise children on their own many a time. The divorce rate is high in the military. Maybe many wives you are talking about are going through hard times. Think of an array of people you know outside of the military going through hard times, they probably are not a bowl of sunshine either.

The soldier knows where he is, his missions, his buddies, his training. The wife knows he is gone somewhere unsafe and oftentimes can not contact him. She doesn't know the details, its her husband, the father of her children. All she has are her own thoughts to answer her unending questions.

My man will tell you that being a wife IS a tough job. He is a soldier.
When you are dead, there you are, dead. A wife survives this experience and pain and will be forced to move off base in the near future, the last place her husband called home. That is tough.

Maybe you are mistaking wearing ranks with pride? Maybe they are walking like they have a stick up their *** because their soldier just came home and she "didn't sleep" all night. Ha Ha

People are different in all walks of live, good and bad. Please don't categorize all of us for a few bad apples that you have met. Open your mind and think from all sides.

Signed, Another God-awful Army Wife

HOOAH!

OK YOU ARE A ******* RETARD. I AM A DAMN PROUD ARMY WIFE. YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT US MILITARY WIVES GO THREW DAILY. SOME OF YES GO BACK TO SCHOOL AND SOME OF STAY HOME WITH THE KIDS CUS WE CHOOSE TOO.THAT DOESNT MAKE US ANY LESS OF A WOMEN IF WE CHOOSE TO STAY HOME. I STAY HOME WITH MY KIDS AND I HAVE EDUCATION. YES MILITARY WIVES DO HAVE TO RIGHT TO THINK THEY ARE BETTER THAN CIVILAN WIVES. WE GO THREW SO MUCH MORE THAN A CIVILAN WIFE DOES. WE HAVE TO SAY GOODBYE TO OUR HUSBANDS THAT ARE OFTEN HAVE TO GO SOMEWHERE FAR AWAY FROM THEIR KIDS AND WIVES OR HUSBANDS. ESPELLY ONES THAT LIVE ON BASES SUCH AS FORT BRAGG THAT HAVE RAPID DEPLOYMENTS. SOME OF MEN HAVE ONLY BEEN HOME FOR 7 MONTHS AND HAVE TO GO BACK FOR ANOTHER 12,15,18 MONTH DEPLOYMENT. SO YES WE HAVE THE RIGHT TO THINK BETTER THAN CIVILAN WIVES. WE HAVE TO BE EVERYTHING WHILE OUR MEN ARE AWAY. WE HAVE TO BE THE MOTHER AND THE FATHER WHILE THEY ARE GONE. SOME NIGHTS WE CRY IN BED CUS WE HAVENT HEARD FROM OUR HUSBANDS OR WIVES IN DAYS OR JUST CUS WE JUST MISS THEM. WE HAVE TO BE STRONG FOR OUR CHILDREN SO THEY DONT FEEL THE PAIN WE ARE GOING THREW AND BE STRONG FOR OUR SOLDIERS. WE HAVE FEAR THAT SOMETHING IS GOING TO HAPPEN TO THEM OR FEAR THAT THEY MIGHT NOT COME HOME AND THEN WOUNDERING HOW WOULD WE EXPLAIN TO OUR CHILDREN WHY THIER DADDY OR MOMMY IS NOT COMING HOME. AND TO MILITARY WIVES THAT HAVE LITTLE ONES THAT DONT EVEN KNOW WHATS GOING ON CUS THEY ARE SO SMALL WE HAVE TELL THEM EVERYDAY THAT DADDY WONT BE HOME FOR A WHILE AND EVERYDAY WE SEE THEM CRY CUS THEY CANT SEE THIER DADDY. AND WE HAVE ALOT MORE TO WORRY ABOUT. DUDE YOU HAVE KNOW IDEA WHAT US WOMEN GO THREW EVERYDAY. A BUSINESS MANS WIFE GETS TO TALK TO THEIR HUSBANDS EVERYDAY WE DONT. SO BEFORE YOU GO RUNING YOU MOUTH ABOUT HOW MILITARY WIVES ACT OR WHAT THEY THINK MAYBE LIVE A DAY IN OUR SHOES FOR ONE DAY AND YOU WILL CHANGE YOU MIND REAL QUICK. AND AS FAR AS RANKS GO MY HUSBAND COULD BE A ENLISTED OR OFFICER AND I WOULD THINK THE SAME WAY I DO NOW AND YOU STILL DONT KNOW WHAT HIS RANK IS RIGHT NOW . JUST REMEMBER A**HOLE OUR MEN AND WOMEN THAT FIGHTING FOR YOU FREEDOM TO BASH ON THEIR SPOUSES BACK HOME.SO MAYBE YOU SHOULD JUST KEEP YOUR THOUGHS ABOUT THE WIVES OR HUSBANDS BACK HOME WAITING FOR THEIR SPOUSES TO YOUR SELF

cvr_army

Jst be happy that ur husbands are making it back home bc not all wives get that!

R.Coll
Is this a joke? I hope so. If not, this is really juvenille and sad. I hope most of you are just losers sitting in your home with nothing better to do. If you are military wives your attitudes are god awful and explains a lot of the nonsense I witness daily. Hopefully you are not real military spouses or god help those of us that are....sheesh
