It depends on what political party they belong to.
When Democrats says it, it means they hate President Bush and the United States, but they realize saying that would expose them for what they really are.
When Republicans says it, it means they want the troops to be successful in their mission. |

This generation has no idea on what sacrafice is in the midst of a war. The Greatest Gereration understood that it required selfless sacrafice to win a war. Gathering scrap metal, seling war bonds...
The only thing people sacrafice today is time on thier Xbox or Nintendo.
But the bumpersticker always says I support our troops on the back of that gas guzzling SUV. |

B/c if they say I don't support our troops then that implies they are turning their backs on their country.
Since they are brought up here in this country, no matter how good or bad the history is, they still need to support your country.
You may disagree with your country but you must have faith in your country. You can't turn your back on the society that raised you. |

What do they need to do?
Pay taxes?
Donate their children to the effort?
Plaster flags and slogans on their cars?
Or is it the "support Mr. Bush, right or wrong cause he is your president"? If that is the one, then this has nothing to do with supporting the troops.
I had friends and family in VietNam and this is a conflict not unlike that one. I cannot, and will not, stand in support of this action. It is wrong.
But my son is in the National Guard. I admire his dedication and his service. I love him very, very much and I am as afraid for his life as any parent. I will never say that a serviceman is wrong to do his job. And I will gladly pay my taxes for their supplies, wages and safety.
Not supporting the leaders that have made terrible choices and caused the deaths of too many of our kids is NOT the same as not supporting our troops. |

some people support just because they think its the only right thing to do. some people support because they actually have family in military and support what they do. and others support because they are thankful that we have people serving their country and fighting for our freedom. |

I think it is because they are parrots. They may have heard other people say it and think it sounds pretentious or important, so they are mimicking them. It is my guess that they have even mocked the intonation.
If they wanted to really support them, literally, they might do best by providing them with "supportive" underwear AND by getting them out of Iraq and whereever else they are doing way more damage than anything that could really justify their presence.
Anyone who wants to support someone could help them by providing them with some useful information about the wars and the politicians who are sending them out. They could try to change the System so that the options of some of these people were not cut off to the point where citizens feel that they have to join the military or sell themselves in other ways just to survive.
"I support our troops". I am sure the message is not going to get to them. If it even reached Iraq, it might not be heard over the gun fire. |

How are you so sure that such is the case. If you are relating to those ribbon bumper stickers that just about the majority has on their vehicles, then I could see why you would draw to such a conclusion. It's as if they are going through that fashion stage of pimping troop stickers. Nonetheless, keep in mind that in that majority are mothers, fathers, sisters, daughters and armed forces individuals who drive around with these stickers because in some way or facet they do indeed support the troops. As you ask of them what have they done, I hope that you to are making great contributions to these troops. |

Sometimes just moral support or not speaking against what the troops are doing is support enough for some people. |

What exactly do you want people to do?
I support our troops.......
Do I need to explain to every idiot that asks, that I tried several time during 2 Administrations to get into the ARMY,but I keep getting turned down because of 3 Abdominal surgeries???
Do I need to tell every idiot that asks that I put together care packages and have them sent to our troops over there?
Do people really need to explain what they have done?
OK....
What have you done???? |

it's just a fad. I support the troops all the time. I send care packages Christmas presents letters cards, even talk to some on emails. I donate to organizations that provide for our troops, I help family members who are having a hard time at home. I have 2 boxes setting here for me to take to the p.o. full of Avon products for the women. when i say i support the troops I do it by actions not by words. |

How do you know what they've done? Have you secretly watched over every person in the world to see if they have supported the troops? Who are YOU to say anything about anyone else when YOU are wasting time sitting at your computer being lazy when YOU could be out doing something for them?
How dare you insult other people who HAVE done something when YOU are sitting there! You are an ignorant person and embarrass me to be human. |

To many people, "Our Troops" are family memebers, friends, co-workers, neighbors. To some Americans, supporting our troops simply means that they send their prayers and best wishes to those who serve the USA. |

People support our troops in faith. They don't support the nutcase conservatives politicians. Most of them are gung ho for war as long as they don't have to fight in one. The same nutcase conservatives Who love war seemed to have weaseled their way out of going to war themselves (see Bush, Cheney, Limbaugh, Lott, Gingrich, Rumsfeld, Gramm, Buchannon, Wolfawitz, and a thousand other chicken sh@#)
Besides people think by buying a colored ribbon they are supporting our troops somehow. The only problem is they have colored ribbons for everything. They have yellow for aids, red for abused women, green for earth day.
I have a ribbon it's brown, wanna know what it means "EAT SH$# MOTHER FUC@*#. |

Because they do moron. They support the work, the effort, the hardships, and the ideals of the soldiers. Most people have known someone in the military, some have been in themselves, and some have had a parent serve. Then there are the spouses who marry soldiers, and support them in countless immeasurable ways. I support our troops...why? Because my Father was career NAVY, countless members of my family have fought in every war, and my husband is an Army medic. God Bless every single one of them! |
